Cheonan gyukatsu restaurant A set for 33,000 won: Izawa Sinbu-dong
In short
Izawa Cheonan Sinbu-dong Branch is a Japanese gyukatsu (beef cutlet) restaurant on the second floor of the food alley in front of Cheonan Terminal. Two of us ordered the A set for 33,000 won, which pairs a gyukatsu set meal with a steak-don set meal and a drink, and staff explained that pork cutlet is no longer sold after a menu renewal. Each slice is grilled to taste on a mini brazier so the beef stays warm to the last bite, and the sweet-savory steak-don was the top pick of the meal.

The weather's been so perfect for dates lately that I headed to Sinbu-dong in Cheonan and ended up at this gyukatsu place. I'd been craving gyukatsu for ages, and sure enough, it was so good — tender Japanese-style beef cutlet!! Here's my honest review of Izawa Cheonan Sinbu-dong Branch, a Sinbu-dong favorite specializing in gyukatsu.
Where is Izawa Cheonan Sinbu-dong Branch, and when is it open?

Izawa Cheonan Sinbu-dong Branch is located at 18-1 Meokgeori 10-gil, Dongnam-gu, Cheonan-si, Chungcheongnam-do, right in the food alley in front of Cheonan Terminal. Hours are 11:30–21:00, with a break time from 14:40–16:30, and it's closed every Monday.
Since it's right in the food alley in front of Cheonan Terminal, it shouldn't be hard to find. This Sinbu-dong gyukatsu favorite, Izawa, is on the 2nd floor. There's a break time from 2:30 to 4:30 and it's closed every Monday, so keep that in mind if you're planning a visit.

Izawa's menu now: pork cutlet is gone

Izawa Cheonan Sinbu-dong Branch used to serve both gyukatsu and pork cutlet, but they're in the middle of a menu renewal and no longer sell pork cutlet. I'm hoping this means they'll focus even more on gyukatsu and it'll get even better!

(Swipe through the menu photos.) The main offerings are the gyukatsu set and a double set with more meat. Pork cutlet is gone, but rice bowls and noodle dishes are still on the menu, along with set menus — great if you're on a Sinbu-dong date and want to order a few dishes to share.
Inside Izawa: the dining room and the mini brazier

Izawa's interior is all black, with a proper Japanese restaurant feel. Since they specialize in Japanese-style gyukatsu, there's even Japanese cherry blossom tree decor — the atmosphere really nails it haha.

You can't talk about gyukatsu without the mini brazier. The two of us shared one, and once we ordered, the staff lit it up for us. Just seeing the brazier crackle away made me so hungry haha.
What we ordered: the A set for 33,000 won
A set: gyukatsu set + steak-don set + drink, 33,000 won

There were two of us, so we ordered the A set. Ordering a set gets you a drink included and lets you enjoy gyukatsu a bit more affordably.

Doesn't it look completely delicious haha. The steak-don visuals were insane. Both the gyukatsu set and the steak-don set came with salad and a clear soup on the side, and the sides were clean and nice too.
The gyukatsu set meal, grilled to your own taste

The gyukatsu set! There was a lot of meat. Gyukatsu comes out completely rare, only fried crisp on the outside — you grill it further to your own taste on the personal brazier.
Sizzle sizzle haha. At first I was only grilling one or two pieces at a time, but after one bite I just piled the whole grill full. I wanted to eat it all right away!

Put some sauce or wasabi on the gyukatsu and the meat gets so tender and delicious!!! If you're looking for gyukatsu in Cheonan Sinbu-dong, this is the place, this is the place!!
Why the steak-don set meal was my top pick

The steak-don set's visuals were insane!! And the taste was insane too. Personally, I liked the steak-don even more than the gyukatsu! It comes coated with a slightly sweet, savory sauce that makes it even more flavorful and delicious — kind of like the taste of galbi (Korean grilled ribs).

The steak-don meat also comes out rare, so you grill it on the brazier to your liking, and eating the grilled steak-don with rice is seriously so good ㅜㅠ If you go on a Sinbu-dong date, definitely order the steak-don haha.
Having a personal brazier meant we could eat the food warm from start to finish. No matter how delicious a dish is, it's disappointing once it goes cold — but with this Sinbu-dong gyukatsu, there was no such worry.

We started off putting on just one or two pieces at a time, but ended up piling the grill completely full haha.
Is Izawa Cheonan Sinbu-dong worth a visit?
I visited Izawa Cheonan Sinbu-dong Branch while out on a Sinbu-dong date, craving Japanese-style gyukatsu, and I ate so well. My top pick was the steak-don!!! I'm planning to go back just for that. If you're looking for a good spot near Cheonan Terminal and craving Japanese gyukatsu, I recommend Izawa.
