We went for a little outing near Gungpyeong Port today~ As the weather cools down, I start craving a hot soup, haha. On the way home, I always see a crowd at Haga Naju Gomtang and had wanted to try it at least once — so we finally decided to go!

Haga Naju Gomtang, a gomtang restaurant open for breakfast in Maehyang-ri, Woojeong-eup, Hwaseong, sits right at the entrance to Maehyang Rotary~ It's also just 2 minutes by car from Hwaseong Dream Park Baseball Stadium and Maehyang-ri Peace Ecological Park!

Goonhae Beach is 5 minutes away and Gungpyeong Port is 10 minutes away, so it's a great spot for anyone who wants a hearty breakfast before heading out~ There's a large dedicated parking lot in the open space right in front of the restaurant, and even on a weekday evening it was packed with customers' cars! That alone tells you it's already a well-known gomtang spot in Maehyang-ri, right?

Inside Haga Naju Gomtang: solo seats and a private room for groups

The restaurant was clean and fairly spacious! There's a private room in the back too, so it'd be great for group gatherings or work dinners~ Single-portion menu items are available too, so plenty of people were there dining solo~

Best of all, the open kitchen let us watch the whole cooking process, so we could trust it was hygienic too!

Haga Naju Gomtang menu and prices

The Haga hanwoo gomtang menu! Made with rich broth simmered for 24 hours, there's gomtang, yukgaejang (spicy beef soup), haejangguk (hangover soup), naejangtang (intestine soup), ttukbul, mandu soup, doganitang (beef knee soup), and more — plus dishes good for drinking, and a variety of side dishes to pair with the soups, so it was fun just picking what to order~

We ordered two Haga hanwoo gomtang at ₩9,500 each and one spicy ugeoji-tang at ₩10,000!

Basic banchan table setting at Haga Naju Gomtang

The basic banchan provided! Kimchi is essential with gomtang, isn't it?! Every single kimchi was delicious and paired well with the soup~

Sign in the restaurant describing the hanwoo broth

While waiting for the food, I looked around the restaurant — apparently Naju gomtang uses top-grade domestic hanwoo (Korean beef) and is simmered for 24 hours with 12 kinds of herbal ingredients, like a medicinal tonic! That made me even more excited!

Haga hanwoo gomtang, 9,500 won: bone broth vs meat broth

A bowl of Haga hanwoo gomtang with milky bone broth

The Haga hanwoo gomtang! There are two menu items, Haga hanwoo gomtang and Naju gomtang — the hanwoo gomtang uses bone broth, while the Naju gomtang uses meat broth! We wanted the rich bone broth, so we ordered the hanwoo gomtang~

The broth was milky white and rich, generously loaded with top-grade hanwoo! The broth isn't pre-seasoned, so I'd recommend adding salt to taste~ Mix in white rice with this delicious broth, top it with a piece of kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), and a whole bowl of rice disappears in no time, haha.

Our kid also ate well once I mixed rice into the gomtang and cut up the meat~

Gomtang and meat shared with the child

Best of all, the rice was packed in so full that one bowl was enough to fill up both me and my kid!

We went with my parents, and honestly, I'd never seen my mom pick up a stone bowl and drink the broth straight from it like that before, haha. She'd already eaten ₩200,000 worth of sashimi at Gungpyeong Port, but it seems she enjoyed the gomtang even more than the sashimi^^ My parents were very happy with this gomtang too!

Spicy ugeoji-tang, 10,000 won: hangover cure and drinking food

Spicy ugeoji-tang served bubbling hot in a stone bowl

I usually like spicy food, so I ordered the spicy ugeoji-tang~ It came bubbling hot in a stone bowl, so it stayed piping hot the whole time I ate it!

Inside the spicy ugeoji-tang with cabbage and hanwoo beef

The spicy ugeoji-tang was loaded generously with ugeoji (dried napa cabbage leaves), top-grade hanwoo, glass noodles, bean sprouts, and more~ The ingredients were so plentiful that even just picking out the vegetables was filling^^

Mixing white rice into the spicy ugeoji-tang

Mix white rice into the rich, spicy broth, top it with kimchi, and no more words are needed, haha. It's great for a hangover, but it'd also be really good as a drinking snack!

Is Haga Naju Gomtang worth a visit? Final verdict

I pass by this road often whenever I head to Gungpyeong Port in Hwaseong, and every time I noticed the parking lot completely full, I wanted to visit at least once~ A gomtang made from broth simmered for 24 hours with 100% hanwoo, for under ₩10,000, was easy to enjoy without any guilt!

Especially seeing my picky mom finish her whole bowl of gomtang... that's already proof this place is legit^^ Since it's open from 7am, it'd also be great for a hearty meal before work! If you're looking for a gomtang restaurant that serves breakfast in Maehyang-ri, Woojeong-eup, Hwaseong, with a variety of dishes to choose from, I highly, highly recommend Haga Naju Gomtang Hwaseong Woojeong branch^^
