I really love dak hanmari (whole chicken hot pot), and I found a clean, nice-looking restaurant serving it near Migeum in Bundang, so I went! This is Sugyeokok Bundang Migeum 😊

Interior of Sugyeokok Bundang Migeum

I've eaten a lot of dak hanmari in Jongno and Euljiro, so I was curious how Bundang would compare — and honestly, it was just delicious, full stop. If you're craving dak hanmari in Bundang, go to Sugyeokok! I left super full and satisfied 😊

What comes in the 38,000 won chicken hot pot set for two

It's dak hanmari + chicken neck rice porridge + noodles for ₩38,000 for two. Since chicken neck isn't a commonly eaten part, it wasn't in the hot pot itself — instead they put the chicken neck meat into the rice porridge! I don't eat chicken neck so I loved that it came as porridge instead haha

There was also potato pancake and chicken salad on the menu, but just the set for two was already plenty to fill us both up 😙

How to eat dak hanmari at Sugyeokok: the 8-minute timer

Sugyeokok has a timer at every table — boil for 8 minutes, then turn the induction down to level 6 and eat in order! We enjoyed it fully in the order of rice cakes, breast, then leg and wing..🤎 Dak hanmari is just so good ㅠㅠ

Mixing the dipping sauce: spicy sauce, garlic, mustard, soy sauce, vegetables

While it boils, they make the sauce for you! Honestly, dak hanmari is all about the sauce... the sauce is the whole point!!! You add spicy sauce, garlic, mustard, soy sauce and vegetables to taste — I added a lot of garlic!

They also give you herring roe, and eating it alongside the porridge was the best combo! The spicy sauce and garlic side dishes can be ordered for free via the tablet 😙

Why the chicken neck rice porridge is a must at Sugyeokok

The porridge is delicious!! The toppings are lightly seasoned so it goes down easily. My husband finished every last bit too 🫢 Everyone, the porridge is a must,,

Why is the dipping sauce so good? You have to load it with mustard for that sharp, addictive kick.

Eating the porridge in between while waiting for the hot pot to boil kept things from getting boring at all haha

Garlic and pepper in the broth: how this couple likes it

It's boiling!!!! Sugyeokok's dak hanmari broth is genuinely rich yet clean-tasting chicken stock, and it's so addictive,, We added extra garlic to loosen into the broth, and loaded in plenty of pepper too. (This is totally our couple's personal preference haha)

Sugyeokok's dak hanmari broth at a full boil

If you like a clean taste, eat it right after it boils. If you want a stronger, richer flavor, add garlic + pepper! It's the same garlic that's in the dipping sauce, but boiling it into the broth makes it even tastier..

Water kimchi comes with it too, so the table was packed full — and all for around ₩30,000-something... so filling and I loved it. And above all, the owner is super kind! We got the broth refilled twice haha

The blue-tinted rice cakes are delicious too ㅠㅠ You have to eat them with the sauce! Non-negotiable ♥️

Can you see the pepper sprinkled on top..? It's basically peppered chicken soup haha My husband said he wanted soju and ended up ordering some! Looking around, most of the reservation tables seemed to be work dinners. The potatoes were big too — two of them — and they're even tastier when you eat them at the end.

Which side dishes are free to refill at Sugyeokok

Kimchi, vegetables, spicy sauce, garlic, herring roe — all free refills, is this real..? The spicy sauce is nice and spicy too, so good!

The noodle portion was generous too, so it was filling, and the chicken was tender piece by piece with no gamey smell — we ate really well ♥️

Noodles added into the dak hanmari broth

I'm writing this post right after eating today, and just looking at the photos makes me want to eat it again haha Why is it so good... In fall and winter this is a once-a-week kind of meal for me,,

The restaurant is clean and comfortable, and you can tuck your coat under your chair! They also had disposable black aprons, the staff were super kind, and you get 5% of your purchase saved as points — I loved that! I saved my points right away 🫢 (Once you accumulate over ₩5,000 you can use it like cash. If you're there for a work dinner, it'd add up nicely haha)

Comfortable dining hall at Sugyeokok Migeum

Parking is easy on both sides of the restaurant, so you can drive too! We walked over as a little stroll, and the road there is really nice — it's also close to Migeum Station ♥️ Fall and winter mean dak hanmari...!
