In short

Gim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang Bucheon Main Branch is a Korean set-meal (hanjeongsik) restaurant on Gilju-ro 560beon-gil in the Gachiul and Jak-dong area of Bucheon, Gyeonggi. The restaurant requires one tteuranchae bapsang set per person plus at least one shared dish, so two diners ordered 2 sets and borigulbi (dried salted yellow croaker) and received 12 banchan along with cheonggukjang (rich soybean stew) and pot rice. Rice poured with Boseong green tea water and topped with the croaker was the highlight, and a return visit is certain.

Had a delicious Korean set meal for dinner tonight!! 🤤 I've been eating way too much hot soup lately..!! So this time I told myself, let's have a proper meal!! haha, and picked a hanjeongsik (Korean set-meal restaurant).

Gim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang Bucheon Main Branch / 240 Chunui-dong, Wonmi-gu, Bucheon, Gyeonggi, South Korea. Hours daily 10:30–21:00, last order 20:00, parking available [spacious].

Building exterior with the Tteuranchae Bapsang sign
Staircase to the second floor and decorated walkway

The building is pretty cute too!! 👀 The walkway leading in was nicely decorated too !!! Felt like it'd be really busy on weekends..!! There's a staircase up to the second floor right under the tteuranchae bapsang sign on the right!! Let's head up!! 😃

Inside the restaurant: snacks, banchan for sale and seating

Various snacks displayed at the entrance
Shelf of snacks for sale

The first thing you see walking into the second-floor shop is all the snacks haha, such a huge variety !!! Looked like people were buying a lot !! 😆

Banchan and cheonggukjang for sale corner

Right behind that they sell banchan (side dishes) and cheonggukjang (fermented soybean paste)!!

Entrance to separate men's and women's restrooms in the back of the restaurant

Further back there are even separate men's and women's restrooms 👍

Spacious hall seating, mostly 4-top tables

So many seats!!! Mostly 4-top tables, but there's also a 6-top and more tables further in!! Really spacious 👍

Menu and the rule: one set meal per person plus a dish

Menu board listing dishes

At Gim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang, you basically must order one tteuranchae bapsang set per person. Say 3 people show up!!? You're required to order 3 tteuranchae bapsang sets AND one dish! In other words, you must order the tteuranchae bapsang set for every person, then also order at least one other dish!

  • 3 people ordering just 2 tteuranchae bapsang sets + charcoal-grilled meat is not allowed! 😳
  • (Example) A family of 4 adults + 4 tteuranchae bapsang sets + an à la carte dish = OK
  • (Example) 3 adults come and order only 3 tteuranchae bapsang sets with no dish = not allowed

After some deliberating, I ordered 2 tteuranchae bapsang sets plus borigulbi (dried mackerel)!!

What is on the unlimited self-bar: namul, braised potatoes, fried eggplant

Self-bar with seasoned greens
Braised potatoes and other dishes at the self-bar
Fried eggplant at the self-bar

The self-bar had all kinds of namul (seasoned greens)!!! Plus braised potatoes and fried eggplant. Everything at the self-bar is unlimited ❤️

The full table: 12 banchan, croaker, cheonggukjang and pot rice

Beautifully set two-person tteuranchae bapsang table

The table arrived beautifully laid out...!!! Came out faster than expected too !! 5 minutes?? 7 minutes?? And there was way more food than I expected — I was shocked!!😳

Side dish plates on the table
Close-up of perilla leaf pickles and pickled radish
Cheonggukjang served in a stone pot
Plate of borigulbi, dried mackerel

Twelve banchan alone..!!! Plus mackerel and cheonggukjang!!! And of course rice is a must for any hanjeongsik.

Pot rice with the lid open

Pot rice !! 👍👍👍🍚 Pot rice is always a win 🔥

How to eat borigulbi: rice in Boseong green tea water

Boseong green tea water served alongside the borigulbi

Borigulbi comes with Boseong green tea!!? How do I even eat this? I wondered — but you pour this water into a bowl, mix it with rice, and top it with the mackerel!

A spoonful of rice mixed with green tea water topped with mackerel

Just like this!!! Wow!! 🥺 This combo is so good...🥹👍 The rice and mackerel just slid right down!! 🤤

Refills at Gim Myeongju: japchae on request, cheonggukjang too

The cheonggukjang was really savory too ~ tasted like a good mix of doenjang and cheonggukjang!! Mixed rice into that too 👍 gave it an automatic thumbs-up!🤣 The side dishes were amazing too ~ the namul were really tasty, but the japchae (glass noodle stir-fry) and potatoes were exactly my taste !! 🥺 I refilled both of those.. My mom next to me loved the perilla leaf pickles and gochujang-pickled radish! The namul were mildly seasoned too, nice to eat in between 👍

Japchae isn't at the self-bar!!! If you ask the staff walking around the floor for japchae, they'll go scoop some fresh from the kitchen and bring it to you!! Cheonggukjang is refillable too 👀!!

Table finished off with pot rice nurungji and the last of the mackerel

And finally, finishing off the pot rice's crispy nurungji (scorched rice) with the last bits of mackerel 🐟❤️ Such a satisfying meal!! Felt like it'd been forever since I had such a proper hanjeongsik!! Made me think of my parents the second I took a bite 🥺.. I've got to bring them here next time ~

I'd definitely come back!!!👍 Next time I want a proper Korean set meal, I think I'll be heading back to Gim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang 😃
