What we ordered at Kkalkkali Jokbal Bucheon Branch was the chewy half-and-half jokbal, medium size (₩42,000). We shared it between two people and ended up very full.

What I ordered that day was the half-and-half jokbal medium, known for its outstanding chewy texture! It's a really solid combo that lets you try both the trendy fried jokbal and the sweet-spicy spicy jokbal at the same time!

I was especially excited for the fried jokbal since it was my first time ever trying it, and the surface was fried so thin and crispy that it was a textbook example of crispy-outside, juicy-inside done right.

The fried jokbal had a crispy skin packed with moist, tender pork inside — it got more delicious the more I chewed!

The spicy jokbal served alongside it had skin that was springy and chewy, with soft meat inside — the kind of flavor that kept pulling my chopsticks back.

Rolling the flying fish roe rice balls by hand, with bean sprout soup

The flying fish roe rice balls at Kkalkkali Jokbal Bucheon Branch are ₩5,000, and it's fun to roll them into round shapes yourself. A refreshingly spicy bean sprout soup comes with it as standard.

The roe rice balls we ordered to enjoy alongside the spicy jokbal were really the right call!

Loaded with popping roe and nutty roasted seaweed flakes, eating it together with the jokbal was such a great combo.

On top of that, the free, refreshingly spicy bean sprout soup was perfect for cleansing the palate between bites.

Fruit makguksu comes free with every order

Usually at jokbal restaurants you have to order makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles) as a separate add-on, which can add up — but true to being a proper Bucheon jokbal spot, here the fruit makguksu comes free as a side!

Thanks to the sweet and tangy fruit sauce, slurping the noodles was genuinely fun, and piling the noodles on top of the tender jokbal and rolling it up together was seriously — no words needed, a perfect flavor combo...🩵

Generous side dishes and what you get for the price

The basic side dishes that go well with the main jokbal came out generously too. From crunchy, refreshing radish kimchi to fragrant chive salad, sweet-and-tangy pickled onions, and fresh lettuce for wraps, the table was thoroughly filled.

All the side dishes paired perfectly with the jokbal, so with so many different combinations to try, I never got tired of it and cleaned my plate to the last bite!

Would I go back to Kkalkkali Jokbal in Bucheon?

That unique fried jokbal is something you don't easily find anywhere else, and it really hit my exact taste for the first time in a while.
