Nothing beats tender meat and a cold drink for shaking off a weekday's stress... can I get an amen?

This time, I met up with a friend right after work on a Wednesday and headed to Kkalkkali Jokbal Bucheon Branch, apparently the hot jokbal (Korean pork trotter) spot near Bucheon Station these days. It's in the food alley near the Bucheon Station Rodeo Street area, close to Bucheon University — and honestly, even though we rushed straight over after clocking out early on a weekday evening, the place was completely full the moment we walked in!! If we'd been even a little later, we might've had to wait outside. Big thanks to my friend for getting there first... here's my review of this true jokbal hotspot!

Kkalkkali Jokbal is on the street between Bucheon University and Bucheon Station — I've walked this street often, so I found it without getting lost. In the photos you can see a few empty seats, but before 7pm it had already gone completely full, packed to the brim..!

The place has this retro-yet-clean pojangmacha (street food tent) vibe. It felt like exactly the kind of spot where Bucheon University students or nearby office workers would stop for a drink after work. (Plus, the table next to us that night was on a blind date..!!) And even though it was completely packed and the floor staff were clearly slammed, every single employee was so kind — it put me in a great mood from the moment we walked in!

Menu and the free peppery bean sprout soup at Kkalkkali Jokbal

Kkalkkali Jokbal Bucheon Branch has a half-and-half menu option, so you can order a combo of spicy jokbal and fried jokbal, and the set comes with a small-size mak-guksu (buckwheat noodles) included as standard. The basic side dishes are seasoned dried radish, seasoned chives, and clear soybean sprout soup.

The best thing about Kkalkkali Jokbal is how solid the menu lineup is! There's a half-and-half option so you can pick according to taste, and since my friend and I are both spice fiends, we went with the spicy jokbal + fried jokbal combo. Plus the set comes with a small mak-guksu included by default, so you don't need to order one separately — great value!

Once you sit down, they set out these basic side dishes first — the seasoned dried radish? Insane. The seasoned chives? Even more insane. The combo of fried jokbal and seasoned chives is genuinely great, so if you're headed to this jokbal restaurant near Bucheon Station, please try it!

And this clear soybean sprout soup that comes standard...? Absolutely wild. I already like clear soybean sprout soup both hot and cold, but here it comes hot at first. One spoonful in and — wow!! — it's so spicy-tangy and refreshing that both my friend and I widened our eyes! It cooled down as we ate, but even cold it was still spicy and delicious, so we kept sipping it between beers. A jokbal restaurant near Bucheon Station where you can down a bottle of soju on the soup alone before the main meat even arrives — highly recommend!

The sweet-and-tangy fruit mak-guksu included in the set also had chewy, springy noodles and a sauce that wasn't overpowering — perfect to eat alongside everything else.

How do the spicy jokbal and fried jokbal taste, half and half?

The spicy jokbal at Kkalkkali Jokbal Bucheon Branch has a tangy heat rather than a capsaicin burn, making it great with drinks, while the fried jokbal had a thin, crispy exterior with a moist, clean-tasting interior. It didn't take long after ordering for the half-and-half jokbal to arrive.

It didn't take long after ordering for the half-and-half jokbal to arrive, and the moment it landed on the table, I was struck again by how good it looked! A spread that really felt like great value for the price.

Jokbal really is the best... My husband doesn't like it so we don't get to eat it much at home, but coming out on a beautiful day like this to eat at Kkalkkali Jokbal made me so happy...❤️

Chewy spicy jokbal

The reddish one here is the spicy jokbal! I tried it first. Even though it's lean meat, there wasn't a hint of dryness or toughness — it was genuinely tender. The skin part was chewy and springy but not tough at all, the kind of flavor you could eat morning, noon, or night. The seasoning wasn't the artificial heat of capsaicin either — it was tastily tangy and just spicy enough to keep you coming back for more! It landed right in that sweet spot between spice-averse and spice-loving eaters. Sometimes overly spicy jokbal is hard to pair with alcohol, but this one was just right for drinking.

Crispy-outside, moist-inside fried jokbal
Clean-tasting fried jokbal

And the fried jokbal, which I tried for the very first time! This thing is a true gem... The texture was completely different from regular boiled jokbal. The outside was fried so thinly that you'd barely notice it was fried at all, yet the inside stayed moist while the outside was crispy. It wasn't greasy at all — the more you chewed, the cleaner and nuttier it tasted?? It's a totally new texture, and it was so good that I immediately wanted to bring friends visiting near Bucheon University to try this fried jokbal. If I had to pick the two standout dishes at this jokbal restaurant near Bucheon Station, it would be these two!

Adding the flying fish roe rice ball, with soju-and-beer

Adding the flying fish roe rice ball was the right call with the spicy jokbal. The flying fish roe rice ball at Kkalkkali Jokbal Bucheon Branch was loaded with roe that popped with every bite.

You need some carbs when eating spicy jokbal, so we ordered this flying fish roe rice ball on the side!!! They clearly didn't skimp on ingredients — it was loaded with roe that popped satisfyingly with every bite! Eat a spicy piece of jokbal, then a bite of rice ball, and you can keep going forever~

A bite combining fried jokbal and fruit mak-guksu

We also mixed in the fruit mak-guksu with the fried jokbal! The jokbal had a softness running through it overall, so it went well with any side dish it was paired with. My friend, also a jokbal enthusiast, admitted Kkalkkali Jokbal was genuinely delicious!

A glass of soju-and-beer enjoyed with the jokbal

With food this fantastic, alcohol was non-negotiable... It was a weekday and I'd only just started the work week, so I tried to hold back, but... soju-and-beer for the two of us, celebrating a hard week gone by and gearing up for more work ahead... Taking a bite of the tangy mak-guksu with jokbal and following it with a sip of beer just melted the day's fatigue away! Ugh... work again tomorrow, but let's push through a little more.

Would I go back to Kkalkkali Jokbal Bucheon Branch?

After finishing the meal, it was so good that I asked the owner on the way out how long they'd been open. To think I'd been living without knowing about this place... The staff were incredibly kind, and everything from the half-and-half menu to the side soybean sprout soup was flawless — this jokbal restaurant near Bucheon Station, Kkalkkali Jokbal, truly delivered. If you're near Bucheon Station or Bucheon University looking for jokbal with no gamey smell, crispy and chewy, to enjoy with a drink, I genuinely recommend giving this place a try!❤️
