Perilla oil makguksu and dumpling soup at Samiri Makguksu, Bundang

Today's post is about Samiri Makguksu Migeum Branch, which I visited when I was craving Korean food near Migeum Station! As the name suggests, makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles) is the main event, but they also have great menu items to eat alongside it, from kalmandu-guk (dumpling noodle soup) to dumplings and gamjajeon (potato pancake). We ended up picking one of each, so we ordered a total of four dishes — deulgireum makguksu (perilla oil cold noodles), kalmandu-guk, dumplings, and gamjajeon haha. Ordering several things together instead of just makguksu made the meal so much heartier and the combination worked really well. What kind of restaurant is Samiri Makguksu Migeum Branch?

Samiri Makguksu is a place where makguksu is the main dish, but you can also enjoy a variety of Korean menu items alongside it, like kalmandu-guk, dumplings, and gamjajeon. Sometimes one person wants makguksu while another is craving a warm soup dish. Since there's such a wide selection here, it seemed like a good spot for family meals or groups where everyone can order according to their own taste. It was especially nice for finding a Korean restaurant near Migeum Station that's filling without being too heavy.

What is the space like inside Samiri Makguksu?

Overall, it had the comfortable feel of a Korean restaurant that's easy to eat at! Since the menu isn't limited to just makguksu even though it's a makguksu place, it seemed like a good spot for lunch or dinner too. It's also great for ordering a bunch of things like we did and sharing a table full of food haha.

It's not really a place you'd dress up and visit for a special occasion — more like somewhere you can casually drop by when you think, 'I want Korean food today!'

The four dishes ordered at Samiri Makguksu

What we ordered that day was

• Deulgireum makguksu (perilla oil cold noodles)
• Kalmandu-guk (dumpling noodle soup)
• Dumplings
• Gamjajeon (potato pancake)

Four dishes in total! Since we ordered one thing at a time, it turned into quite a hearty spread before we knew it haha. But each menu item had a different taste and style, so even with so many dishes, nothing felt repetitive and we could enjoy a good variety.

Deulgireum makguksu: how nutty are the perilla oil noodles?

Since we came to Samiri Makguksu, we had to try the makguksu haha. We ordered the deulgireum makguksu (perilla oil cold noodles). It came piled high with seaweed flakes and sesame seeds, so it looked nutty just from the visual! After mixing everything together well, I could taste that distinctive nutty flavor of perilla oil, and it was light and clean to eat. If you prefer a nutty style over a spicy, heavily-seasoned makguksu, this would especially suit you. Instead of eating just the deulgireum makguksu the whole time, pairing it with the other dishes in between made it even tastier haha. I scraped the bowl clean!! So nutty and delicious.

Kalmandu-guk: does the dumpling soup work with makguksu?

We also ordered the warm kalmandu-guk (dumpling noodle soup) because we wanted something hot. Personally, I loved ordering deulgireum makguksu and kalmandu-guk together. Eating the nutty, light makguksu and then taking a sip of the hot kalmandu-guk broth in between turned out to be a surprisingly great combination haha. Since the kalguksu (knife-cut noodle) style noodles come with dumplings in the soup, it was quite filling even on its own. I feel like once it gets a bit chillier, I'll be craving kalmandu-guk even more! Are the dumplings worth ordering on their own?

The kalmandu-guk already comes with dumplings in it, but we ordered dumplings separately too haha. You can't come to eat makguksu and not order dumplings, right...? Instead of just eating noodles, having a dumpling here and there in between definitely made the meal more filling. If you're visiting with a group, it's a good side dish to order and share.

Adding gamjajeon, the potato pancake

Last but not least, gamjajeon (potato pancake)! I find it hard to pass by when a Korean restaurant's menu has gamjajeon on it haha. If we'd only ordered makguksu and kalmandu-guk, it might have felt a little lacking, but having gamjajeon too made the whole spread so much more filling. It was great eaten fresh and hot, and it went really well with the deulgireum makguksu too. Take a bite of deulgireum makguksu, then a bite of gamjajeon, then a sip of kalmandu-guk broth — perfect! Each of the four dishes had its own charm, so I was glad we ordered this combination haha.

Which combination to order at Samiri Makguksu

Samiri Makguksu Migeum Branch, visited because I wanted Korean food near Migeum Station! I went planning to eat makguksu, but ended up with a proper full spread including kalmandu-guk, dumplings, and gamjajeon haha. Personally, I'd recommend ordering kalmandu-guk or gamjajeon alongside the deulgireum makguksu rather than just the makguksu alone. Eating the nutty deulgireum makguksu, then taking a sip of the hot kalmandu-guk broth, then adding in gamjajeon and dumplings — the combination worked really well haha. With everything from makguksu to warm soup dishes on the menu, it's also a good spot to visit with people who have different tastes!
