Busan Premium Outlets family restaurant in Gijang, NORTH 1F: Bueokgan

In short

Bueokgan Restaurant, Shinsegae Simon Busan Premium Outlets is a Western family restaurant on the first floor of the NORTH building (the older wing) of the Gijang outlet mall in Busan, right beside New Balance and the escalator. On this visit the couple ordered their usual napa cabbage Caesar salad at 16,000 won, lasagna at 21,000 won and sweet potato fries at 8,000 won, and Bueokgan had enough high chairs and toddler tableware that most of the tables were families with children. An easy place for a Western meal with a child in the middle of a shopping trip at the Gijang outlet.

Whenever we go to Shinsegae Premium Outlets Busan, we end up debating where to eat, and it's always Bueokgan Restaurant in the end. Honestly our order here is basically fixed. I come for the napa cabbage Caesar salad and my husband comes for the lasagna haha. This time too, same menu as always. If you're looking for a good Western restaurant in Gijang, or a family restaurant that's easy to eat at with kids, come along.

Is parking free at the Gijang outlet?

Parking is, well, it's an outlet parking lot, need I say more haha. There's both indoor and outdoor parking with plenty of space. And best of all, it's free, so it was easy to take our time eating and then go shopping afterward.

Where is Bueokgan inside the Jeonggwan Shinsegae Simon outlet?

Corridor on NORTH 1F of the old building at Busan Premium Outlets

Bueokgan is on the 1st floor of NORTH in the old building at Busan Premium Outlets. The outlet is so huge that finding a single store can be a bit of a maze.

Just head toward New Balance. It's right next to the escalator!! Once you get near the ECCO and UGG stores, you'll spot Bueokgan right away.

What the Bueokgan storefront looks like

I actually spotted Bueokgan on my way to the restroom. It's set into a brick building, and I was like, oh, so it's here, haha.

Even though it's a restaurant inside an outlet mall, from the outside it doesn't have that typical food-court or dining-alley feel.

Inside Bueokgan: seating and layout

I've also been to the Yangsan branch and the Haeundae Dalmaji branch of Bueokgan, and each location has a slightly different vibe, which I find fun.

Dining hall at Bueokgan with a European house atmosphere

This Busan Premium Outlets branch felt like a genuine big European house the moment we walked in.

Less like arriving at a restaurant, more like a big house's living room with several tables set up in it.

This particular branch really suits the name 'Bueokgan' (부엌간, meaning 'kitchen space') especially well, I thought.

Why Bueokgan works as a family restaurant with kids

Seating overview at the Bueokgan family restaurant

That day there were really a lot of families with kids. Lots of strollers around, and quite a few young children too. Baby chairs were plentifully available, and kids' tableware was set aside separately.

When you come to an outlet, you often end up eating with your kid, right? Here, bringing a child along didn't feel like something you had to worry about at all.

What the couple ordered at Bueokgan, and the prices

  • Napa Cabbage Caesar Salad ₩16,000
  • Sweet Potato Fries ₩8,000
  • Lasagna ₩21,000

No matter how many times we come, the order barely changes, haha.

Whole grilled napa cabbage Caesar salad

This is the dish I always order when I come to Bueokgan. A whole napa cabbage (al배추) is grilled and served — it looks simple, but it seems like it'd be hard to recreate exactly at home.

Cross-section of the grilled napa cabbage showing a moist interior

The outside is properly charred, but the inside is glossy and moist when you look at it. Yet it's not mushy at all — the crunch is still there. Even after eating it several times, I still wonder, how do you grill napa cabbage to turn out like this?

The Caesar sauce isn't just the usual savory flavor either — it's got a slight tang to it, which I really like. That's why at Bueokgan I always go for this over other salads.

Lasagna, 21,000 won

Bueokgan lasagna with nicely browned cheese

This one's my husband's pick. If I'm all about the napa cabbage, he's unconditionally on Team Lasagna.

Spoonful of ragu sauce and lasagna sheets

The ragu sauce has good chunky bits in it for texture, and scooped up together with the layered lasagna sheets, it's pretty rich and hearty.

The cheese on top is also nicely browned, so when you scoop it up hot, it stretches beautifully. Once you taste it, you totally get why we order this every single time, haha.

Sweet potato fries, 8,000 won

Crispy fried sweet potato fries

Regular potato fries are common, but places that sell sweet potato fries are surprisingly rare. They have a charm that's totally different from potato — sweet, with a crisp exterior.

They're great for picking at between the main dishes, so this is another thing we always end up ordering whenever we come to Bueokgan. One of our household's set-in-stone menu items.

Is Bueokgan at the Gijang outlet worth it?

No matter how many times we go, the dishes we look for are always about the same. Me: napa cabbage. My husband: lasagna. And then the sweet potato fries on top, haha. This time at the Busan Premium Outlets branch, the space was spacious and there were especially many families with kids. Baby chairs and kids' tableware were also well prepared. It's convenient for eating in the middle of shopping and then going back to browse, and a good place to remember if you're looking for a Western restaurant to bring your kid to at the Gijang outlet.
