I was hunting for a family dinner spot when I found Jeongwon Galbi. True to its name, it's a BBQ restaurant with a genuinely spacious garden. The space is comfortable and the meat is excellent, so I'm recommending this as a must-try in Gurae-dong.

The garden and trampoline at Jeongwon Galbi Gimpo Main Branch

You park behind the building at Jeongwon Galbi Gimpo Main Branch, and as you walk up, the wide garden out front comes into view all at once. There are tables scattered around for sitting and resting, and I was genuinely surprised to find a large trampoline for kids too. Why didn't I know about this place sooner, 🥲 The weather was great, and the kids visiting that day were having a blast on the trampoline!

Inside Jeongwon Galbi: seating and private rooms

The inside is spacious too — there are private rooms, generous space between tables, and the interior is modern and clean!! It really seems perfect for family gatherings, dates, or company dinners.

The banchan spread, right down to seasoned raw crab

Once we sat down, the basic side dishes (banchan) arrived. Along with salad, kimchi, and pickles, there was a good variety of sides that pair well with meat, like japchae (stir-fried glass noodles) and yangnyeom-gejang (seasoned raw crab).

It's been a while since I've been to a BBQ place that serves seasoned crab :) The japchae was tasty too, and the salad dressing had something special about it. We snacked on banchan while waiting for the meat to cook haha.

Korean pork belly (16,900 won) and stone pot steamed egg

The Korean pork belly we ordered (₩16,900) came out first for two people!! The ratio of fat to lean meat was spot on 👍 They put the good-looking, thick-cut pork belly straight on the grill.

We also ordered the stone pot egg steam (₩5,000), and I'd never seen egg steam this big before 😆 It's fluffy like pudding, so even my kid ate it happily, and it was right up my alley too!!

Grilling the Korean pork belly nicely~~ imagining how much better it'll taste once it soaks up that charcoal aroma!!

Three kinds of salt, onion soy sauce and salted anchovy dip

There were three kinds of dipping salt — wasabi, curry, and sesame salt — plus onion soy sauce and salted shrimp (melchi-jeot), so you can enjoy your meat with whatever sauce suits your taste.

Time to try the evenly cooked pork belly with one bite? The fat was chewy and the lean meat tender, with the juices bursting out with every chew,,

Dipping it in whatever sauce I liked made me so happy,,

Wrap vegetables that even include chard and angelica leaves

True to a Gurae-dong favorite, the variety of wrap greens was impressive!! It wasn't just lettuce and perilla leaves — there was chard and angelica too, which made it even better 😆👍 If you run out, you can refill at the self-serve bar.

Doenjang sul-bap (8,000 won), the side everyone orders

Looking around at other tables, everyone seemed to be ordering this, so there was no way I could skip it haha. We ordered a doenjang sul-bap (₩8,000) too, packed with meat, vegetables, tofu, and rice inside — the savory, umami-rich doenjang stew flavor was insane!! Now I get why everyone orders it.

Jeongwon pork galbi and Jeongwon seasoned grilled meat

Refreshed by the doenjang sul-bap, it was meat time again 😆 This round, seasoned meat!! We ordered one serving each of Jeongwon pork galbi (₩15,900) and Jeongwon seasoned grilled meat (₩14,900).

They swapped out the grill plate for the seasoned meat. They spread it out flat like a blanket over the wire grill and cooked it up nicely~~

As the meat cooked, this sweet aroma rose up — so good,,

The meat was tender, and the juices and seasoning came together perfectly with every bite — so delicious. We cleared it in no time. Between the banchan and the meat, nothing falls short here — confirmed Gurae-dong favorite!!

Why Jeongwon Galbi is easy with kids: the indoor playroom

Inside Jeongwon Galbi Gimpo Main Branch there's a separate playroom, so kids can spend time there after eating, and it meant mom and dad could eat comfortably too 😉

The owner and staff were kind, and both the food and service were fully satisfying, so this is a place we'll be coming back to! (Next time I'll have to come for the beef ribs.) If you're looking for a good restaurant in Gurae-dong, I highly recommend Jeongwon Galbi Gimpo Main Branch. ✨️
