An unhurried lunch for two at Galbigumteo, a Pungmu-dong pork rib restaurant

Such a beautiful fall day for lunch! I'd been wanting to visit Galbigumteo Pungmu Station Branch, a well-known spot in Pungmu-dong, and finally made it there. These days we mostly go to BBQ places with the kids, so eating out just the two of us for meat felt like a rare treat.

Maybe because it was just the two of us without the kids, I felt strangely relaxed 🤭 — we grilled slowly and had a proper bowl of naengmyeon too. The place is spacious and comfortable enough for family meals, work dinners, or group gatherings, and the domestic handmade pork ribs were so generous and tender that I kept thinking I should bring the kids next time. (Sorry for eating the good stuff without you guys haha)

I especially liked the parking. We drove there, and having dedicated parking space behind the building made it much less of a hassle to visit with family.

Inside Galbigumteo: a big, airy room for family meals and group dinners

The interior at Galbigumteo Pungmu Station Branch is really spacious and neatly kept. We visited well past the lunch rush, during a quiet afternoon. Walking inside, it wasn't cramped at all, just as I'd expected — a good place to eat with family.

Galbigumteo's menu and what we ordered

Galbigumteo Pungmu Station Branch has a kiosk at every table, so it was convenient to browse and order directly from the screen.

There was a wide range of meat dishes, from king pork ribs to king beef ribs and fresh galbisal (rib meat). For lunch, there were also options like galbitang (rib soup) or cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew), plus sets pairing pork ribs with naengmyeon, and side dishes like naengmyeon or steamed egg.

What I ordered that day was two servings of the domestic handmade king pork ribs, 300g each, plus mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) — a must with grilled meat.

What side dishes come with the meal?

One by one, the side dishes were set on the table, and there were way more varieties than I expected. Onions, lettuce wraps, pickled vegetables, salad, seasoned dishes, green onion kimchi — a whole spread of banchan that pairs well with grilled meat. With so many sides to choose from, it was fun trying each one. The flatfish salad and green onion kimchi were especially delicious.

There's also a self-refill bar, so we could easily grab more of any side dish that ran low.

While checking out the self-serve bar, I noticed a self-serve jeon (Korean pancake) station. Being able to make your own jeon while out for BBQ was such a fun surprise — I definitely want to try it next time. On top of that, there was even an espresso coffee machine on one side, so the after-meal service was on point.

How do the 72-hour aged handmade king pork ribs taste?

The pork ribs at Galbigumteo Pungmu Station Branch arrived neatly plated, thick-cut and generously portioned. The sauce was packed tightly into the meat, so even before it hit the charcoal grill, I was already looking forward to the flavor.

Pork ribs really do taste best over charcoal. 😋 The moment the meat hit the grill, there was a sizzle along with the sweet sauce aroma and smoky charcoal scent rising up — and just like that, my appetite exploded!!

Seasoned pork ribs placed on the charcoal grill

Controlling the heat really matters with seasoned pork ribs. So I put my grilling skills to work haha — flipping the meat back and forth instead of overcooking one side, getting it nicely browned on the outside while staying juicy inside.

Golden-browned, 72-hour aged pork ribs on the grill

They said it's domestic handmade pork ribs aged for 72 hours. The thick rib meat had noticeable juiciness and richness with every bite. The signature sweet-and-salty rib sauce wasn't too salty at all — the balance was just right, so I kept eating without feeling weighed down. Thanks to the 72-hour aging process, the seasoning had soaked all the way through the meat, and the charcoal grilling added a subtle smoky flavor that made every bite delicious.

Eating a piece of meat plain was already delicious, but I'm a wrap person, so I put a well-grilled piece of pork rib on a fresh lettuce leaf, added onion lightly dipped in onion sauce, and topped it with a slice of garlic. Waaang — stuffing it all in my mouth, pure happiness 😆

Mul-naengmyeon and doenjang jjigae at Galbigumteo

Pork ribs mean naengmyeon — the essential side dish, mul-naengmyeon!

Bowl of mul-naengmyeon topped with slushy ice

There was a real layer of slushy ice on top, so it looked refreshing just by sight. The noodles had that springy, chewy texture too. And the portion was pretty generous — more than enough for the two of us to share alongside the meat.

Eating a warm, sweet-salty piece of rib along with the cool, chewy mul-naengmyeon really brought out more flavor and cleaned the palate — the two together made a fantastic combo.

Doenjang jjigae also came as a standard side. Taking a spoonful of doenjang jjigae between bites of meat had that savory, warm flavor that grounded everything, and of course, that meant more meat next!🤣

The doenjang flavor was rich yet clean and refreshing, so I kept reaching for another spoonful.

Free espresso coffee after the meal

After a filling meal, we finished off with coffee from the machine at Galbigumteo Pungmu Station Branch. There was even an ice maker so we could make iced coffee — and honestly, it tasted better than some cafés 😆. If you're looking for a spot for a work dinner in Pungmu-dong, Gimpo, you won't even need to move to a separate café afterward.

Tender domestic handmade king pork ribs plus refreshing mul-naengmyeon! A satisfying, delicious meal at Galbigumteo Pungmu Station Branch. Next time, I'll bring the kids and really eat my fill of ribs. 😆 If you're looking for a BBQ restaurant for a family meal or work dinner in Pungmu-dong, I'd definitely recommend this place!
