Returning to Jinsim Wang Donkkaseu Cheomdan just before the lunch rush
Jinsim Wang Donkkaseu Cheomdan is a wang donkkaseu (giant pork cutlet) restaurant on Cheomdangangbyeon-ro 87beon-gil in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju. I'd been once before to eat solo, and this time I finally made it back after a while.
I got there before the lunch peak, so there were plenty of empty seats. Once it hit noon though, office workers from nearby started streaming in for lunch.
Where do you park at Jinsim Wang Donkkaseu Cheomdan?
I parked in the alley next to the restaurant. There's an alley with odd/even day parking, so I parked there and walked over.
The dining room is on the spacious side and felt clean and comfortable overall. You order through a tablet at the table, so you can take your time browsing the menu.

The self-serve bar: soup, side dishes and takeout containers
At Jinsim Wang Donkkaseu Cheomdan, soup and side dishes are self-serve — you just bring over as much as you'll eat. There are even kid-sized utensils, so it'd be easy to bring children along too. Kimchi, pickled radish, lettuce, ssamjang (dipping sauce) and broth were all available, so I grabbed a bit of everything.
After finishing the meal, there were also self-serve to-go containers for packing up leftovers. With this system, you barely need to call over staff.
You've got to have a bowl of soup before the cutlet, no exceptions, so I grabbed one. And a broth to wash things down so you don't choke — gotta get that too.
For sides, there was lettuce, ssamjang, pickled radish and kimchi for wrapping bites of cutlet.
How big is the 16,900-won Jinsim Wang Double Pork Cutlet?
The dishes came out quickly, one after another. The double cutlet is a truly giant pork cutlet — the size caught me off guard — and even the tteokbokki side had a pretty generous portion. The naengmyeon was a good single serving.
Can you tell how huge the Jinsim Double Wang Cutlet is? True to its name, it was seriously sizeable.
It came generously sauced from the start, so I didn't need to add any extra. Since the cutlet itself is so large, just one plate was plenty filling.
One piece is genuinely huge and surprisingly heavy. It's exactly that classic gyeongyangsik (Western-style Korean diner) pork cutlet sauce flavor, so kids would love it too.
The cutlet is tasty on its own, but I like wrapping it in lettuce to cut the richness. You might wonder what kind of combo that even is, but it's surprisingly good.
Jinsim tteokbokki at 7,000 won and cold noodles at 8,900 won
The Jinsim tteokbokki (spicy stir-fried rice cakes) had jjolmyeon (chewy noodles) mixed in along with the rice cakes. Eating the rice cakes and noodles together gave a nice contrast in texture, and they went together better than I expected.
It felt like a shame to eat only cutlet, so I ordered this as a side dish, and the spiciness was a nice touch.
The mul-naengmyeon had a tangy dongchimi (radish water kimchi) broth base. The broth was clean and refreshing, so eating a bit between bites of cutlet left my mouth feeling much cleaner.
Fried food paired with cold noodles is still a pretty reliable combo, I think.
Is Jinsim Wang Donkkaseu Cheomdan good for solo diners and work lunches?
Just like the last time I came alone, there were solo diners this visit too, along with plenty of office workers during lunch hour. Since the restaurant is spacious, it never felt too crowded while eating.
This time I ordered a few different dishes, and the double pork cutlet in particular was massive in portion — with the tteokbokki and naengmyeon added in, it was fun comparing flavors across dishes. I ended up here while looking for good food in Cheomdan and craving pork cutlet for lunch, and since I'd eaten here alone once before, it felt like a familiar spot to me personally.
