Guri seafood restaurant by Donggureung for a crab date: Onggi

The weather's been so nice lately that I wanted to take a trip out to Donggureung in Guri, and while looking for good food nearby I found a place famous for all-you-can-eat soy crab. So off we went to Guri's 🦀Onggi Kkotgejang Main Branch!

My boyfriend is a total soy crab (ganjang gejang) maniac who goes crazy for it, while I like crab too but can't handle even a hint of fishy taste. Here's our honest review 🫡🤍

Where to park at Onggi Kkotgejang Main Branch, two minutes by car from Donggureung

Onggi Kkotgejang Main Branch is about a 2-minute drive from Donggureung, so it's easy to stop by before or after visiting the tombs! The parking lot is to the left of the restaurant, behind the building.

We drove there that day. Since it was our first visit, we got a little lost trying to find the parking lot haha 😂

It looked like several businesses share the same parking lot, but there's a spot marked "soy crab" (간장게장) — just pull in there 🚗

Inside Onggi Kkotgejang Main Branch: the room and who eats there

The inside of Onggi Kkotgejang Main Branch felt warm and homey overall. Kind of like a neighborhood restaurant my family used to go to a lot when I was a kid haha.

We came at an awkward time — just before 5pm on a weekend — so at first we were the only customers.

But not long after we ordered... suddenly the place filled up 😳 It's only 5pm...? Even before tasting the food, I could tell it was a genuinely popular spot lol. There were lots of families with kids, and quite a few people picking up takeout too!

How much is all-you-can-eat crab in Guri?

Unlimited crab at Onggi Kkotgejang Main Branch is ₩26,000 per adult. For reference, it's ₩17,000 for elementary schoolers and ₩5,000 for toddlers.

Onggi Kkotgejang specializes purely in unlimited soy crab, so there's really just one main menu item! Besides crab, they also have separate kids' menu items like ramyeon, jjajang rice, and hamburg steak, which makes it a good option for visiting with children. Now I get why so many families come here haha.

We ordered two servings of crab, plus a fried egg and cider — because what's crab without a fried egg on the side!

How the soy crab tastes if you are sensitive to fishy flavors

The soy crab at Onggi Kkotgejang Main Branch was packed with meat, and the fishy taste wasn't strong at all. We got lucky and our order included female crabs, and the staff mentioned we might find roe here and there.

The crab we'd been waiting for finally arrived! Roe showed up right from the very first plate 🫣🫣

We started with the soy crab first. Wow... the meat was seriously packed in. The moment you bite in, the meat practically pops out ㅠㅠ

My crab-loving boyfriend got super excited the second he took a bite 😂 And as someone who's really sensitive to the fishy taste of crab and can't eat it if it's even a little off, I found it wasn't fishy at all for my taste either!

The soy sauce wasn't too salty either, which I liked. Scoop the crab meat onto rice, add a splash of the soy sauce, wrap it in seaweed, and take a bite... it's seriously the kind of side dish that makes you eat way too much rice 🥹🤍

The spicy marinated crab leans hot rather than sweet

Can't skip the spicy marinated crab (yangnyeom gejang) either?! Personally I prefer marinated crab over soy crab, and Onggi Kkotgejang's version leans more toward spicy than sweet.

So if you love a really sweet marinated crab, this might not be for you — but if you like a spicier marinade, this will suit you well!

Fried egg fully cooked or runny, and refills the owner offers first

The fried egg we ordered along with the crab rounded out the seasoning perfectly haha. By the way, you can choose fully cooked or soft yolk for the fried egg, so pick whichever you like 🍳

The owner walked around and refilled our crab without us even having to ask! (Just a heads up — from the refill onward, the crab isn't pre-cleaned for you.)

Four bowls of rice for the boyfriend: the honest verdict on Onggi Kkotgejang

To cut to the chase... we were very satisfied! 🦀🤍 I'd only ever really had crab as a side dish that came with a meal before, so this was basically my first time properly eating soy crab like this. Now I get why everyone goes out specifically for soy crab!

Especially since my crab-obsessed boyfriend ate so well, I felt proud for finding this place lol.

Can you see all those empty rice bowls there? None of those are mine. My boyfriend alone finished a whopping four bowls of rice 😂😂😂 I'd never seen him eat that much on a date with me before, so I was pretty surprised too lol. I think I'll have to bring him back again 🤭
