Sizzling cheese katsu at Omil Seongsu, a Seongsu restaurant

Last week I took my kid on a date to Seongsu to make mallang-i (squishy toy) crafts. Before the craft class, we decided to fill up our growling stomachs first and stopped by Omil Seongsu, a place Ppeuni had been wanting to visit.

Omil Seongsu: location, hours and parking

Omil Seongsu is located at 37-1 Achasan-ro 5-gil, 1F Unit 101, Seongdong-gu, Seoul, and is open 11:30–21:15. You'll need to use a nearby public parking lot, as there's no parking support.

You can reach this Seongsu restaurant by walking about 10 minutes from Exit 1 of Seongsu Station. True to Seongsu's trendy vibe, even the exterior is decorated in a cute, charming way that kids would love. If you're driving, there's a public parking lot within about 3 minutes' walk of the store, so it's convenient to park and walk over. Just keep in mind there's no parking support, so plan accordingly.

Arriving before the dinner peak — is there a wait?

There's a waitlist registration machine set up in front of Omil Seongsu, so you can register conveniently if there's a wait. We visited before the dinner peak that day and were able to walk straight in with no wait at all.

Inside, soft natural light streamed in through the floor-to-ceiling windows by the seats, and the white-toned interior gave it a clean, pleasant atmosphere.

Cute little props were decorated throughout the space, making it a great spot to visit with kids, and also a solid date spot for a Seongsu outing.

What's on the menu at Omil Seongsu

Looking over the menu, there's the rubber duck omurice that Omil is known for, plus Omil steak, gochujang butter pasta, salmon steak gnocchi, a variety of pasta dishes, and skirt steak risotto. Side dishes include Omil sobayaki, crunchy corn fritters, and truffle fries, all good pairings for the mains. Beyond individual dishes, there's also a 2-person set menu where you pick 2 mains, 1 side, and a drink — a reasonably priced way to enjoy a variety of dishes with a group.

If you join the review event, you get a free drink, so it might be worth doing that alongside your main dish.

There's also a self-serve bar off to the side where you can grab cutlery, pickles, and other extras to your taste.

(Ordered) Rubber duck omurice / Sizzling cheese katsu on a hot plate / Pineapple ade / Orange juice

The drinks came out before the mains. We ordered pineapple ade and orange juice, and the pineapple ade came in an adorable pineapple-shaped cup — cute to look at and fun, which Ppeuni loved.

The mains arrived together: the cute-looking rubber duck omurice and the cheese katsu, still sizzling and sounding delicious on its hot plate.

Rubber duck omurice: how did the kid like it?

Omil's signature dish, rubber duck omurice!! The visual was truly overwhelming. Cute quail-egg rubber ducks sit atop a swirl of egg blanket — so adorable that anyone, kids and adults alike, would fall for it at first sight.

The rubber duck omurice tasted just as good as it looked. Taking a bite of the soft egg and rice, the sauce wasn't overly strong or salty, making it an easy, no-pressure dish for kids to eat.

Rubber duck omurice won over both taste and eyes!! With its cute visual and great flavor, Ppeuni ate it all up and even said she wanted to come back and eat it again.

How the sizzling cheese katsu on a hot plate tastes

Omil Seongsu's sizzling cheese katsu arrived sizzling away on a hot iron plate. The staff poured plenty of sauce over the hot cheese katsu, and along with the sizzle came a delicious aroma that made my mouth water.

Cutting the cheese katsu in half revealed it was packed full of cheese inside. Juicy pork paired with rich, savory cheese — that combo needs no explanation, haha.

The thick pork cutlet was stuffed with plenty of savory cheese, and paired with the warm white cream sauce, the soft, rich flavors went together beautifully. In particular, the cheese kept sizzling and melting on the hot plate, so we could enjoy it warm all the way to the last bite.

Dipping the side corn and broccoli into the sauce also paired well with the meat, so we enjoyed those too.

The rubber duck toy and final verdict

Order the rubber duck omurice at Omil Seongsu and you get a cute little rubber duck as a free gift — seeing Ppeuni so happy over such a small present made me happy too, haha. If you're looking for a good Seongsu restaurant or a pasta spot, or need somewhere for a meal with kids or a date with a partner, I'd recommend Omil Seongsu for its cute dishes and wide variety of food.
