Daegu Korean restaurant, Saturday wait, fire-grilled pork: Banwoldang
In short
Banwoldang Bujasikdang is a Korean restaurant on Gwandeokjeong-gil in Jung-gu, Daegu, known for fire-grilled pork stir-fry cooked on a hot stone plate. Arriving just after 2pm on a Saturday meant a 20-minute wait behind two parties, then fire-grilled pork stir-fry for two (24,000 won), three bowls of rice and cheonggukjang (fermented soybean) stew. The pork at Banwoldang Bujasikdang is not overly sweet, with a clean, smoky heat from coarse chili flakes that works best wrapped in lettuce.

How to find Banwoldang Bujasikdang on Gwandeokjeong-gil

My boyfriend and I went looking for "Banwoldang Bujasikdang," a famous Korean restaurant near Banwoldang. He said he'd known about this place for a while as a well-known spot! Come out Exit 20 of Banwoldang Station and head into the alley between the Dongyang Life Insurance building and Tous Les Jours.

How long is the wait at 2pm on a Saturday?
We arrived past 2pm on a Saturday and there was a wait — this really is a Banwoldang Station favorite! Some people left for other spots because of the wait, while others had reservations and walked right in. Looks like reservations are possible, so it seems worth booking ahead on weekends!
There's parking space in front of the restaurant. There were waiting seats, so it wasn't too hard to wait. We were behind two parties, so it took 20 minutes. Being a Korean restaurant, the table turnover seems pretty fast haha.

So it's been on TV too?! Looks like a lot of celebrities have visited~~ You can see the kitchen from outside, and the smoky flavor must be no joke, wow~~
What's on the self-serve ssam bar?
The self-serve bar at Banwoldang Bujasikdang has lettuce, chili peppers, and ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste). Just take as much as you'll eat back to your table haha.

There's also an origin-of-ingredients sign and a baby chair, for reference~

Menu prices and what we ordered

<Order> Fire-grilled pork stir-fry for two ₩24,000, rice x3 ₩3,000, Pepsi Zero ₩2,000. Rice is ordered separately, so make sure to add it!

Fire-grilled squid pork stir-fry is a new menu item~ If you're torn between the squid stir-fry and the pork stir-fry, this one might be the answer for you~
What does the fire-grilled pork stir-fry for two taste like?
The fire-grilled pork stir-fry at Banwoldang Bujasikdang comes out sizzling on a stone plate, so it never got cold before we finished. Side dishes included pickled onion, pickled radish, seaweed stem, seasoned bean sprouts, and cabbage salad.

The whole spread was laid out! The pork stir-fry arrived sizzling on the stone plate!!!! Because it comes on stone, it stayed hot right through to the last bite ><

The color is no joke~~~ They use slightly coarse chili flakes, giving it a clean, spicy flavor! Pork stir-fry is usually pretty sweet, but Banwoldang Bujasikdang's wasn't overly sweet, which I really liked!
The enoki mushrooms are placed on top of the pork so they cook through nicely haha. The only vegetables inside the stir-fry are onion and scallion, keeping the flavor clean ☆

Enoki mushrooms soaked in all that sauce!! Great texture, and they go so well with the sauce, so tasty

The best way to wrap the fire-grilled pork
It's a smoky pork stir-fry, so it was delicious with just rice, but wrapping it with chili, rice, ssamjang, and pickled onion was seriously amazing! Mixing the pork stir-fry in the accompanying stainless bowl and eating it with the bean sprout side dish is also delicious!

Cheonggukjang stew and the side dishes
The cheonggukjang (fermented soybean) stew had a very mild fermented flavor (nothing anyone would dislike), wasn't salty, and the seasoning was just right! It tasted like something cooked at home, which is exactly my style.

The side dishes weren't salty either, and the seasoning was spot on. The seasoned greens were so good I asked for a refill haha.

My boyfriend ate two bowls of rice, haha.
As break time approached and customers started clearing out, I snapped another photo of the interior~ There are private rooms inside too, so group reservations would work! If you're looking for a Korean restaurant near Banwoldang, a favorite by Banwoldang Station, or a great spot in Jung-gu, Daegu, go try this distinctive fire-grilled pork stir-fry!
