Pyeongtaek naengmyeon spot with skate salad bibim: Seoul Myeonok
In short
Seoul Myeonok is a long-running cold noodle restaurant on the main road beside Pyeongtaek Station in Gyeonggi, open since 1973. On this visit the husband ordered pyeongyang naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles in chilled broth) for 11,000 won, the wife had bibim naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles) for 11,000 won, and they shared a half plate of Korean pork belly suyuk (boiled pork) for 16,000 won, with free self-serve warm beef broth by the entrance. The chewy noodles and the seasoned skate salad (ganjaemi muchim) on top were good enough to book a return visit.

My husband loves naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles). So this time I went looking for a naengmyeon place he'd really enjoy, and that's how I found this spot near Pyeongtaek Station: Seoul Myeonok (서울면옥). Here's our story from our visit together.

A sign that has hung over Seoul Myeonok since 1973
Seoul Myeonok sits right on the big road to the right of Pyeongtaek Station, so it wasn't hard to find at all. The building itself had that weathered look, and my first impression was that this was a place that had held its ground for a long time. Sure enough, the sign said it's been a naengmyeon restaurant since 1973 — just the sign alone made me feel the long stretch of time Seoul Myeonok has stood there.
Inside Seoul Myeonok: a dining room full of regulars

When we opened the door, there were more customers than I expected. So many people were already eating that my expectations shot up without me even meaning to 👆

The interior was clean and comfortable, good for a relaxed meal. Rather than flashy decor, it had a plain, understated feel that let you focus on the noodles and the food.

We ordered pyongyang naengmyeon for my husband, bibim naengmyeon for me, and a half plate of domestic pork belly boiled pork.
Free self-serve warm beef broth at the entrance

Near the entrance there was warm broth set out along with cups and small plates. I'm the type who loves warm broth, so at places like this I go looking for it first thing.
Here it was self-serve, so I could drink as much as I wanted without feeling self-conscious about it — and I really loved that. But of course, that only matters if it actually tastes good. This had that deep, long-simmered flavor with a subtle savoriness, and I honestly lost count of how many times I went back for more. 😂 For me, the warm broth left as much of an impression as the noodles themselves.

By the entrance there were also disposable aprons ready if you need one, and I heard that if there's a wait, you can register with CatchTable and line up.
The dishes arrive one by one at the table

While we waited, dried radish and skate sashimi salad came out first, along with salted shrimp, ssamjang, chili, garlic, and pickled radish to go with the boiled pork.

Then, a little while later, the naengmyeon finally arrived and the table filled up completely. The moment I saw it, I found myself asking my husband without thinking:
We didn't order the double portion, right?
The portions were genuinely huge, more than I expected. Now it was time to actually dig into the pyongyang naengmyeon, bibim naengmyeon, and boiled pork. So, how did it taste?
Pyeongyang naengmyeon, 11,000 won

This is the pyongyang naengmyeon my husband ordered. The broth is made from beef and dongchimi (radish water kimchi), giving it a clean yet deep flavor. It seemed to be the same broth as the warm one from earlier —

The broth soaked into the noodles so well that even the noodles alone weren't bland — the seasoning was exactly to his taste, he said. The portion was quite generous too, and eating it alongside the boiled pork, he said he got full partway through, but still — my husband finished every last bit, calling it delicious. 😊
Bibim naengmyeon with skate salad, 11,000 won

I'm actually team bibim naengmyeon (spicy mixed noodles). Doesn't this bibim naengmyeon just look delicious from the sauce alone? Looking at the photo again is making my mouth water all over. Haha. I didn't add any extra vinegar or mustard, but the seasoning was spot on, and it wasn't overly spicy, which I loved.

Best of all, wrapping the generous meat piled on top together with the noodles — wow, it's absolutely wild. 😂

And adding the skate sashimi salad, which really boosts the savory flavor, was another knockout moment! Even after getting full, I kept reaching for more — a truly satisfying meal. The noodles were so chewy and springy that eating them, I thought, 'I've really found a great naengmyeon spot.'
Half plate of Korean pork belly suyuk, 16,000 won

And the boiled pork we ordered alongside deserves real praise too. It was boiled well with no gamey smell, tender and clean enough to melt in your mouth.

Topping a piece of meat with chili and garlic was genuinely a happy moment. 😀 At that point I quietly thought about a glass of soju, but held back that day. Hahaha.
Verdict: would we go back to Seoul Myeonok?

Eating our way through pyongyang naengmyeon, bibim naengmyeon, and boiled pork together, I could kind of see why this place has been loved for so long. My husband was won over by the clean, deep broth of the pyongyang naengmyeon, while I, true to my bibim naengmyeon allegiance, fell hard for the sauce. 😊
With the chewy, springy house-made noodles, generous meat, skate sashimi salad, and tender boiled pork all together, it made for a really filling meal. If you're near Pyeongtaek Station and craving a clean bowl of naengmyeon, this place is worth a stop. My husband and I are already booked for a return visit soon 😊
