Tonkatsu restaurant in Godeok, Pyeongtaek with an udon set: Omi Katsu

In short

Omi Katsu is a newly opened handmade tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet) restaurant in Godeok, Pyeongtaek. Over dinner with her mother, the writer ordered the 18,000-won udon set and paid 2,000 won more to swap the standard sirloin katsu for tenderloin plus cheese katsu, added a cold soba set with sirloin katsu, and shared shrimp tempura (2 pieces) and karaage fried chicken (5 pieces). Since every set at Omi Katsu lets you change the katsu and the side dishes come from a self-serve bar, two people can taste a lot in one sitting.

Hi everyone, it's Nyamnyami, your food fairy! Did you all have a good weekend?? Why do fun weekends always fly by so fast... To power through starting Monday, I went out for a nice dinner with my mom 😋 I was looking for good restaurants in Godeok, Pyeongtaek and ended up visiting Omi Katsu, which just opened. The portions were really generous and every dish was satisfying, so I wanted to share it with you all!

What the Omi Katsu dining room is like

Omi Katsu, a tonkatsu favorite in Godeok, has a variety of 2-person and 4-person tables, and the dining hall was fairly spacious. We visited around 5:30pm and about two tables were already eating.

There's kimchi, pickled radish, pickled chili, and even udon broth. The flakes you sprinkle on udon are also self-serve, so I loved that you could pile them on as much as you wanted ദ്ദി ˉ͈̀꒳ˉ͈́

Nyamnyami's Omi Katsu picks

  • ✔️ Udon set (tenderloin + cheese katsu)
  • ✔️ Cold soba set (sirloin katsu)
  • ✔️ Shrimp tempura
  • ✔️ Karaage

The 18,000-won udon set, swapped to tenderloin and cheese katsu

Full udon set spread with tenderloin and cheese katsu upgrade

First, the udon set is ₩18,000, and since the basic option is sirloin katsu, I paid an extra ₩2,000 to switch it to tenderloin + cheese katsu! I loved that you can change the katsu in every set menu to suit your taste 😋

Cross-section of Omi Katsu's tenderloin katsu

How is the tenderloin katsu?

I tried the tenderloin katsu first! The outside was crispy and the inside was so moist and tender it practically melted in my mouth. My mom took a bite and said the tenderloin was incredibly soft. She usually loves tenderloin katsu, and she said this one ranks in her top 3 ever.

Cheese katsu with stretchy mozzarella cheese

How is the cheese katsu?

A cheese katsu packed full of cheese! I heard Omi Katsu insists on using only natural mozzarella cheese, and maybe that's why the rich, savory cheese flavor really came through. With the stretchy cheese and crispy katsu together, this seems like it'd be great to bring kids to as well ❁´▽`❁

Fried tofu udon piled high with fried tofu

Fried tofu udon in the Omi Katsu set

For the udon set, you can choose fried tofu, fish cake, or kimchi udon. We went with fried tofu udon! It really is loaded with fried tofu — the chewy udon noodles with broth-soaked fried tofu cleansed the palate perfectly alongside the tonkatsu!

Cold soba set with the standard sirloin katsu

Cold soba set with sirloin katsu spread

For the cold soba set, I kept the default sirloin katsu!

Crispy fried sirloin katsu

Sirloin has a different charm from tenderloin. The outside was crispy while the inside was tender yet light.

💡 I heard Omi Katsu only uses 99.99% pure canola oil, and maybe that's why, even after eating such a generous portion of tonkatsu, I never felt heavy or greasy!

Cold soba with wasabi mixed in, paired with tonkatsu

Crispy tonkatsu with cool cold soba — need I say more!! They go so well together~ I mixed in a little wasabi for a sharp kick that made it taste clean and refreshing 😋

Sides at Omi Katsu: shrimp tempura (2 pieces) and karaage (5 pieces)

Whole fried shrimp tempura, 2 pieces

Since I wanted to try a variety of things, I ordered two sides as well. First, the shrimp tempura 🍤 — it looked like the shrimp was fried whole, head to tail, and it was packed full of shrimp meat, easy to eat!

Juicy karaage fried chicken, 5 pieces

Next was the karaage 🍗 — the meat inside wasn't dry at all, it was so juicy. I'd definitely recommend ordering this if you're visiting with kids!!

Is Omi Katsu worth it? An honest verdict

Since it was my first visit, I ordered a bit of everything, and the portions were really generous with each dish having its own distinct texture and charm — a total success and a very satisfying meal. The owner was also so kind, which made the meal even more pleasant. They were so friendly that it made me hope this place does really well.

If you're in Godeok, Pyeongtaek looking for a hearty meal with family or a partner, craving a moist tenderloin katsu or a cheese-packed cheese katsu or a light sirloin katsu, or if you just find yourself thinking about tonkatsu in Godeok one day, I recommend Omi Katsu, a Godeok, Pyeongtaek favorite 💗
