What kind of restaurant is Seoul Myeonok?
Seoul Myeonok is a naengmyeon restaurant less than 5 minutes from Exit 1 of Pyeongtaek Station. It opened in 1973 and is now run by the third generation of the same family, and I heard it even appeared on the TV show 'Master of Living' (생활의 달인), episode 892.
Saturday, September 19 — the weather teases you with cooler days but it's still hot these days. I'd been going back and forth through Pyeongtaek Station wondering 'what does that place taste like?', so I finally took my boyfriend there.
Where to park near Seoul Myeonok
There's a parking spot near Seoul Myeonok at 'Pyeongtaek-dong 76-3 (Pyeongtaek-dong Public Parking Lot)' that's free for 90 minutes, so if you're driving, using the public lot should be convenient. (Check, check!!)
To think I'd been walking past a place like this all along... let's hurry in! :)
Inside Seoul Myeonok and its self-service broth corner
The inside of Seoul Myeonok was pretty pleasant! Right at the entrance was a Catch Table sign, and there was a self-service corner set up where you could grab warm broth, side plates, and wet wipes.
Baby spoons and forks are here too!!
We grabbed a seat right in the middle and quickly looked over the menu :) (There's a table-order kiosk at every table, so ordering is easy!)
Menu and ordering: pyeongyang naengmyeon, bibim naengmyeon and pork suyuk
On Seoul Myeonok's menu there was pyongyang naengmyeon, bibim naengmyeon, galbitang (short rib soup), and braised beef short ribs, and so many things looked delicious! Apparently the braised short ribs use premium BBQ-grade back ribs from between the 2nd and 5th ribs near the spine. How good must that be...
Dumplings~ bulgogi~ mung bean pancake~ suyuk (boiled pork)~ all waiting there, perfect partners for naengmyeon. Out of all these, our choice was....!

That's what we ordered! Looking around the tables, almost everyone was eating pyongyang naengmyeon and bibim naengmyeon! Which made me even more excited! (Squee~)

Seoul Myeonok's half plate of Korean pork suyuk (₩16,000) took maybe 5 minutes after ordering? It really came out fast. It was served with pollack sashimi salad and dried radish strips.

Top the pork with the pollack sashimi salad + dried radish strips and take a bite first — so good~
Eat the pork, then wash it down with the warm broth — amazing (this warm broth right here...). Before I knew it, absorbed in eating, the noodles arrived.
How does Seoul Myeonok's pyeongyang naengmyeon taste?
Seoul Myeonok's pyongyang naengmyeon (₩11,000) had an incredibly clean-tasting broth. They say the restaurant near Pyeongtaek Station insists on a rather demanding, traditional method to make a refreshing, clean broth!
The noodles seemed handmade too — I couldn't help thinking 'wow, these are really springy and chewy!'
What about the bibim naengmyeon?
Seoul Myeonok's bibim naengmyeon (₩11,000) was definitely bolder in flavor compared to the pyongyang naengmyeon, and I thought 'bibim naengmyeon is more delicious!' But personally, as I ate it, I felt 'is the seasoning a bit strong?'
At those moments, somehow my hand kept reaching for the pyongyang naengmyeon broth (maybe that's why everyone orders one of each to share?)
The portions are pretty generous! Crazy, just crazy
You're looking at the ⭐suyuk + pollack sashimi salad + bibim naengmyeon⭐ combo. A combo that will never disappoint! We left Seoul Myeonok very full and very satisfied.
What to order if pyeongyang naengmyeon is new to you
I think Seoul Myeonok is 'the perfect choice for pyongyang naengmyeon beginners.' If you're someone who's curious but has never tried pyongyang naengmyeon before, this is a good place to give it a low-pressure try.
When ordering, I think the best move is to get one pyongyang naengmyeon and one bibim naengmyeon and share them!! If you're reading this and you live near Pyeongtaek Station and 'haven't tried pyongyang naengmyeon yet,' I'd recommend stopping by Seoul Myeonok.
