Uijeongbu pork ribs restaurant where 3 ate 5 servings: Manpo Galbi

In short

Manpo Galbi Uijeongbu Main Branch is a handmade pork galbi (marinated pork ribs) restaurant on Beomgol-ro in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi. A family of three started with 3 servings of handmade marinated galbi at 16,000 won for 250g, then went on to finish 5 servings in total, 2 bowls of rice and the free dessert naengmyeon (cold noodles) — 2 chilled-broth and 1 spicy mixed. The charcoal-grilled marinated galbi at Manpo Galbi was tender rather than just sweet, and the free naengmyeon was the most satisfying part.

It was closer to Uijeongbu Station than I expected, so it's fine to visit without a car too. We came for a family meal, and since group use is possible, it seemed like a good spot for family gatherings or dining with several people. The tables inside weren't cramped either, so we could eat comfortably! It took about 7–10 minutes walking slowly from Uijeongbu Station (light rail).

  • Hanwoo/Hanpork raw galbi 200g / ₩17,000 (minimum order 2 servings)

The galbi sotbap (hot pot rice) set offered as a lunch special looks like good value and a good combo! Apparently if you write a receipt review you get 100ml of a liquor called Hwarang — I looked it up and it seems to be Gyeongju Beopju? I wish I'd written a review and tried it, dang.. missed out. We started with 3 servings of the handmade marinated galbi first, haha.

Before the meat comes out, they neatly serve the side dishes first! The banchan overall had a slightly bold flavor. Which means very tasty.

They give you a taste of yukhoe (Korean raw beef) — I was originally going to add an order but the taste was enough, so I didn't order more! Among the sauces, there was one on top whose name I don't know, but wrapped in a lettuce wrap it was seriously incredible.

3 servings of handmade marinated galbi, grilled over charcoal

The 3 servings of handmade marinated galbi finally arrived! Not the bone-in kind — this was real, genuine galbi!! The fat and lean meat were perfectly balanced, so it was very tender.

Handmade marinated galbi grilling over charcoal

I especially liked that despite being called marinated galbi, it wasn't overly sweet. Grilled over charcoal, the outside browned slightly and the marinade tasted even better, and the meat itself was tender rather than tough. Grilling garlic and stir-fried kimchi alongside it made for a surprisingly great extra treat. I personally love grilling side dishes together with the meat at places like this, so I was even more satisfied!

Mul-naengmyeon and bibim-naengmyeon served for dessert

Free naengmyeon (cold noodles) for dessert, one per person

Once we were reasonably full, we ordered the dessert naengmyeon! They seem to give you one per person — we got 2 mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) and 1 bibim-naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles). The moment I tasted the broth, seriously... this is my favorite kind of Hamheung-style naengmyeon broth from a galbi restaurant. It genuinely made me want soju, but I held back since it was a family meal. The noodles were also incredibly delicious and didn't get soggy. And this is free...

Inner space and sotbap preparation area at Manpo Galbi

Turns out there's an inner space and an area where the sotbap (hot pot rice) is prepared! I'm thinking of coming back next time for the lunch special.

Three people, five servings: is Manpo Galbi worth it?

They also apparently sell gift packages of the meat. The three of us family members thoroughly demolished a total of 5 servings, 2 bowls of rice, and the naengmyeon too, haha. At first I thought 5 servings seemed like way too much, but once we started eating, we ended up cleaning even the rice bowls.

What I appreciated most was that the naengmyeon wasn't a separate order after the meat — it came as dessert. Eating the meat and then finishing with naengmyeon to clear the palate felt like a really clean way to wrap up the meal! If you're looking for a family restaurant in Uijeongbu or you love pork galbi, this place is worth a visit. Next time, we're planning to come for lunch and try the galbi sotbap set.
