Grill-top stir-fried kimchi at Uijeongbu pork galbi spot: Manpo Galbi

In short

Manpo Galbi Uijeongbu Main Branch is a charcoal pork galbi restaurant on Beomgol-ro in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi, grilling 100% pork ribs marinated in a fruit-based sauce. A family of three came on a Saturday evening with a Naver reservation and ordered 3 servings of pork galbi, pudding-style steamed egg and rice, and the table arrived with radish salad, fried mushrooms, potato salad, japchae (glass noodles) and yukhoe (beef tartare). The stir-fried kimchi cooked right on the grill and the free house-made mul-naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles) that comes with any meat order were the highlights at Manpo Galbi.

Manpo Galbi in Uijeongbu is a galbi restaurant that uses only 100% real pork ribs, marinated in a sauce packed with fruit so it's never too sharp or spicy. On top of the galbi itself, you get neat, delicious side dishes and even free naengmyeon (cold noodles) when you order meat.

We only ordered galbi, and yet the table came out this generously spread!! I love a full Korean-style spread, so this was exactly my kind of table.

Saturday dinner at Manpo Galbi: why booking on Naver helps

We went to Manpo Galbi for a Saturday evening family dinner. We'd made a Naver reservation, so we were seated right away — though plenty of people were already eating. It was nearly full, so I'd recommend reserving ahead on weekends. There were lots of families out for dinner, and lots of groups too.

What side dishes come with pork galbi at Manpo Galbi?

At Manpo Galbi, the galbi is great, but the basic side dishes really shine too. Every single one tastes homemade, and the whole spread feels like sitting down at a proper, neat Korean restaurant.

We got radish salad, fried mushrooms, potato salad, japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), and even yukhoe (Korean-style beef tartare). The salad and radish salad were especially good.

Uijeongbu pork galbi grilled over charcoal

The charcoal and our ordered galbi came out. Uijeongbu-style pork galbi is grilled over charcoal — the meat goes straight onto the grill and cooking begins. Pork galbi needs frequent flipping to avoid burning, so my husband kept turning it diligently.

Pudding-style steamed egg, the dish our child finished

While the meat was cooking, the pudding-style egg custard arrived. Taking a spoonful, I could feel a soft, jiggly texture — even softer than pudding, honestly. It wasn't salty, so it was great for our child, who happily mixed it into their rice.

My husband kept flipping diligently, and the galbi was finally all cooked! Because it's marinated in a fruit-based sauce, it wasn't too sharp or spicy — which made it great for eating with our kid too. And since they use 100% pork ribs, you can even nibble the chewy meat left clinging to the bone at the end.

Pickled onions and stir-fried kimchi cooked on the grill

We piled on plenty of pickled onions, which paired really well with the meat. The pickled onion sauce was so good that our child skipped the onions and just dipped the meat straight into the sauce.

There's also a quiet standout dish easy to miss while you're busy eating meat — stir-fried kimchi! It came in a small bowl with kimchi and garlic together, and a staff member placed it right on the grill for us. Stir-fried kimchi cooked on the grill itself! It only caught my eye once we'd already gotten well into the meat. It's delicious over rice, and just as good on top of the meat — a sneaky rice thief.

Free handmade mul-naengmyeon served with the meal

Free with a meat order: house-made Hamhung naengmyeon

The handmade naengmyeon (cold noodles) comes as either mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) or bibim-naengmyeon (mixed cold noodles). If you order meat, the noodles are free — just ask a staff member whenever you want them. We ordered meat first, then a little later ordered the mul-naengmyeon too. I ate it with no extra seasoning, and the broth was delicious. The portion was also just right for a dessert-like finish!

There's a good reason this place is both a pork galbi specialist and a naengmyeon specialist in Uijeongbu. I used to go when I craved pork galbi — now I'll have to visit when I just crave the naengmyeon too!
