The mornings and evenings have become cool, and even the daytime temperature is lower than before, so these are such nice days for getting out and about. I went to Pyeongtaek Lake for a drive for the first time in a while and visited a café nearby. Sisup (시숲) is a pretty café with a garden, making it great for a date or a visit with children, and I relaxed over delicious drinks and desserts.

This Pyeongtaek café is at 287-1 Sinwang-ri, Hyeondeok-myeon, Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do. I did wonder, “Could there really be a café in a place like this?” But following the navigation brought me right to Sisup’s parking lot. Rather than being as quiet as I expected, it was full of cars, which made me realize it is a popular spot. Due to internal circumstances, it is open only on weekends, from 10:00 to 19:00.

A spacious outdoor garden and varied seating

After parking, I headed toward the café and immediately noticed the fresh-looking garden. This Pyeongtaek garden café has an artificial stream where you can dip only your feet, plus tables, so it felt nice for sitting outdoors too. Families with little children were playing in the garden and strolling around it, and it made me smile for no particular reason.

There were many guests in the outdoor garden, but even more inside. True to its reputation as a pretty Pyeongtaek café, it had a clean interior, and each table was different, so it was easy to choose a spot to suit your taste. There are group seats in a room-like area farther inside, as well as spots outside that are good for several people and plenty of tables for two or four. Choose your seat first, then go order.

I was secretly envious watching groups order so many different things. We had already eaten and were only here for dessert and café drinks, so we decided to order what each of us liked. We finished ordering the signature homemade jujube tea, vanilla bean latte, strawberry latte, milk, and six-clove garlic bread.

Self-service corner and restrooms

This Pyeongtaek café is very well equipped, too. The self-service corner has water, bread packaging supplies, and tableware. The separate restrooms for men and women are inside this pretty Pyeongtaek café, and they were so beautiful that I was oddly touched while washing my hands.

There were many guests, so our order took a while, but even the wait was nice for relaxing and feeling like we were on a date. We looked at the wide garden and the pretty café interior and chatted away, and before long the pager buzzed. We quickly picked up our drinks and desserts. We placed our orders on the table and settled in to relax.

Homemade jujube tea as thick as soup

It had been hot, so I always drank cold beverages at cafés, but with the weather becoming much cooler, I ordered a hot drink for the first time in a while. I was intrigued that a pretty café like Sisup sold homemade jujube tea, so I gave it a try. It arrived in a teacup that suited the name perfectly. It was topped with jujubes and assorted nuts such as pine nuts, and when I took a spoonful, I was surprised by its hearty thickness—it was almost like spooning up soup. They had used jujubes generously, and I was impressed by the deep, unmistakable jujube flavor. They told me to add more water if it felt too thick, but I liked eating it with a spoon like soup, so I did not add any.

Vanilla bean latte and children’s menu

The combination of house-made vanilla bean syrup and coffee at this pretty Pyeongtaek café was absolutely thumbs-up. The vanilla aroma came through more than in an ordinary vanilla latte, while a subtle bitterness followed the sweetness, which somehow made it even more delicious. It was cold too, so it was perfect for quenching my thirst.

The children had milk, strawberry latte, and six-clove garlic bread at this Pyeongtaek garden café. As a café with such a spacious garden, it also has drinks and desserts that children can enjoy, making it just right for the whole family to relax together.
