Gangdong chicken shop for old-school fried chicken: Gimssi Chicken

Did you all know there is a place in Amsa Market famous as one of Seoul's top three spots for dakgangjeong (sweet-and-spicy fried chicken bites)?

I'd only heard the buzz myself, but I finally decided to go and see just how good it could be.

When I got to the market entrance, Gimssi Chicken was right there!! But... the line!!!

This is the stature of one of Seoul's top three dakgangjeong spots!?!? Customers kept pouring in, so I thought, “I should look around the market first,” and took a leisurely lap, you know?

But... hahaha, there was still a line of new customers... haha. (I should have ordered first and walked around the market after... haha.) There were a few other places selling dakgangjeong in the market, so why was everyone gathering only here?.. 😋

I'm so curious how good it will be~😆

Gimssi Chicken menu and prices

First, I took a look at the menu~

Wow~ I was surprised by how unbelievably affordable the prices were.

• Dakgangjeong (mild / medium-spicy / spicy): medium ₩9,000 / special ₩13,000 / large ₩17,000
• Boneless fried chicken: medium ₩8,000 / special ₩12,000 / large ₩16,000
• Bone-in fried chicken (one whole chicken, takeout): ₩9,900
• Old-school whole chicken (fried): ₩7,000
• Old-school whole chicken (sauced): ₩10,000

• Drumsticks: 4 pieces ₩6,000 / 6 pieces ₩9,000 / 8 pieces ₩12,000 / 12 pieces ₩17,000
• Wings: 8 pieces ₩8,000 / 11 pieces ₩10,000
• Drumettes: 7 pieces ₩8,000 / 10 pieces ₩10,000

I loved the custom by-the-piece menu, where you can pick just the cuts you like in the quantity you want~ You can also buy sauces: seasoned-chicken sauce, spicy seasoned sauce, mustard sauce, cheese mustard, and cheese jalapeño~👍👍

Gimssi Chicken is so famous for dakgangjeong, so I ordered a medium medium-spicy dakgangjeong... plus the old-school whole chicken that I personally love. (The old-school whole chicken is only ₩7,000😍)

After placing my order and looking around the nearby shops, I came back to find my dakgangjeong and whole chicken packed up~

The bag had a nice weight to it, making my steps even more excited~ (Today is a chicken party~~~😍)🐔🐔

I just love that old-school whole chicken feeling of a paper bag~ 😆

Look at that thin batter~ The skin was so crisp and nutty~ Perhaps because of that, it wasn't overly greasy, and the seasoning was just right, making it easy to enjoy its clean flavor~😍😍😍

The dakgangjeong still had such a lovely crunch too~ And the meat inside was so moist and tender~ I chose medium-spicy, and I loved the happy combination of sweetness and a pleasantly sharp heat. It was fried really well, and I think the sauce is truly delicious. It's genuinely worth lining up for.. haha

I heard Gimssi Chicken can sell at these prices because it cuts out middle-distribution markups, receives ingredients delivered directly from production areas or importers to the shop, and sells them with only a minimal margin.

I was very satisfied to take home chicken that was generous, delicious, and so reasonably priced~😆 If I go to Amsa-dong, I'll absolutely take some home again~😆😆
