Kid-friendly grilled fish in Giheung, Yongin: five-fish set at Guigo

Today I want to introduce a restaurant my mom, my sister and I went to last Friday evening :) My job is in Pangyo, and since it was rush hour it took an hour and a half by car... I was starving to death...
Where is Guigo, and what are its hours?
Guigo is a wood-fired grilled fish restaurant on the 1st floor of a building at 761 Jungbu-daero, Giheung-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, and it's an easy stop as a Yongin restaurant near the Korean Folk Village. Hours are Mon–Sun 11:00–21:00, last order 20:00, closed every Tuesday.
📍 If you're driving, they tell you to head over next to the self-service car wash — and that's exactly right!
🚌 There's a bus stop nearby so it's accessible too, but you'll need to walk up a hill!
♥️ The building isn't right on the main road so it doesn't really stand out!

Is parking easy at Guigo?
🚘 There was plenty of room in the parking lot! When I arrived there was exactly one spot left, haha, but I still think it'd be enough even for a group!
The building was taller than I expected! Guigo the restaurant is on the 1st floor! For a second I thought those clothes were sold at the restaurant too, but it seems there's a clothing shop(?) on the 2nd floor? Once I came back out though, it didn't really stand out like an actual clothing shop, haha.
Inside Guigo: does it work for groups and family meals?
The inside of Guigo is spacious and comfortable, with a vibe that could easily seat a group, and I'd recommend it for a family meal. It felt like it hadn't been open very long! ♥️♥️
I thought they only had grilled mackerel, but they actually have an assorted grilled fish set too! Kids love fish, so I thought it'd be great if more families came to visit :)
Which five fish come in Guigo's assorted grilled fish set?
Guigo's assorted grilled fish set comes with five kinds: mackerel, rockfish, flounder, hairtail, and mackerel pike. We were going to just order the grilled mackerel, but we wanted to try other fish too, so we went with the assorted set!

🎏 Grilled fish 🎏 Usually grilled fish is pan-fried in oil, but Guigo grills it in a wood-fired oven, so there was no fishy smell and no greasiness either! It also had basically no seasoning at all, which I thought made it great for kids too! Honestly, isn't fish basically the ultimate rice thief?? haha I found it a bit too bland so I dipped it in soy sauce, haha. And having a spoonful of the seaweed soup along with it made everything come together so nicely 💜
What's at Guigo's self-serve side dish bar?
At Guigo you can grab extra side dishes yourself from the self-serve bar, and japchae (glass noodle stir-fry) isn't a default side dish — you have to get it from the self-serve bar. I'd recommend the stir-fried fish cake from there! haha
The chonggak kimchi (young radish kimchi) wasn't fully fermented at the time, so personally it wasn't my favorite! 🫥 (I'm someone who prefers well-fermented kimchi...) → chonggak kimchi is best when it's properly fermented ♥️
Japchae doesn't come as a default side dish, you have to go get it yourself! I forgot to take a photo of it :( Take only as much as you'll actually eat, without being greedy 💜 That's just basic manners!!
Can you bring kids? Guigo's high chairs and tableware hygiene
Guigo has kids' chairs and kids' tableware ready to go. Since it's a restaurant and lots of different children use them, hygiene matters, right? They were kept very clean!
The table was super neat! Since the hot pot rice and side dishes take up a lot of space, having it set up this way kept it from feeling cluttered and made things easy!
Usually soy sauce or wasabi are left on the table and you pour some into a separate small dish, but at this restaurant everything was set up in individual disposable packets!
They give one bottle of water per table, and if you want more, you just use the water dispenser!
What I liked most about Guigo
- 💜 Easy parking & accessibility → the restaurant sign isn't visible from the main road so it can be hard to find, but your navigation app will guide you there
- 💜 The staff are friendly
- 💜 The hot pot rice is delicious, and the nurungji (scorched rice) for dessert is the best!!
- 💜 A great place to come as a group — family gatherings, work dinners, etc.!
- 💜 They have kids' chairs & tableware
- 💜 You can go back for more side dishes
