I'm a lamb lover 💗 I heard there's a lamb franchise that's trending lately in the Pyeongtaek Court Intersection food alley called "Hwaro Yangmi," so I went to check it out.

I had the experience of lamb melting in my mouth! 🥩

Let me give you an honest review-!

Hwaro Yangmi table setting prepared in advance after a Naver reservation

I made a Naver reservation and the table setting was already prepared when I got there — so good! For a restaurant, food coming out right away is the biggest plus 😝

A bowl of tangy-spicy onmyeon with corn noodles

Do the onmyeon noodles cut through the richness of the lamb?

At Hwaro Yangmi Pyeongtaek Court Branch, we ordered onmyeon (warm noodle soup) alongside the mixed lamb platter. Eating just lamb gets heavy, so we added onmyeon too. The chewy corn noodles, and that subtly sour-spicy broth that keeps pulling you back 🍜 Whenever I go for lamb, I order onmyeon instead of mala tang. The flavor varies a bit from shop to shop, but it's the best at cutting through the richness of lamb 👍

Charcoal-grilled shoulder rack trimmed into bite-sized pieces

Before the long review, let me say — they serve the charcoal-grilled shoulder rack already trimmed into bite-sized pieces, and this was my favorite part!! ㅠㅠㅠㅠ So good!! This is what they mean by meat melting in your mouth 🤤 ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Where do you park at Hwaro Yangmi Pyeongtaek Court Branch?

🅿️ Parking at Hwaro Yangmi Pyeongtaek — there's no underground lot in the building. If you know the Dongsak-dong restaurant street, you probably wouldn't even think about bringing a car, but for those who don't know, here's the info. There's an open-air lot behind the Hwaro Yangmi building, and people also park along the alley sides. I arrived at 8pm on a Saturday and parked somewhere in the alley and walked to the restaurant. 🖍️If you're planning to enjoy tasty lamb with a beer, just leave the car at home haha

Hwaro Yangmi is on the 2nd floor, and there's a bungeoppang (fish-shaped pastry) stand right in front of the 1st-floor entrance ~~💭🐟 Perfect for a dessert on these chillier evenings. Keep about ₩5,000 in cash on you!

Aging fridge in the restaurant holding lamb sorted by cut

Inside Hwaro Yangmi: the lamb aging fridge and the drinks fridge

Inside the restaurant, lamb was neatly arranged and aging by cut in a dedicated fridge! Not just lamb skewers, but shoulder rack and other cuts were cleanly separated. Maybe thanks to the aging process, the meat was tender and I barely noticed the gamey smell lamb usually has, so it was easy to eat without any hesitation. Watching the fridge made me want to start grilling right away lol Now let's actually get into the meat 🥩✨

Three drink fridges lined up in the restaurant

Having three whole drink fridges made me feel like this place has good turnover — a real local favorite. Honestly, I sometimes judge whether a place is good by the variety in the drink fridge and the empty bottles left out haha!

Is Hwaro Yangmi good for work dinners and group gatherings?

🛄 You know a company dinner has to be a meat menu, right?? I'm not even asking for Korean beef. At minimum, it needs to be lamb skewers. Am I right?

Lamb skewer places tend to have the image of being for small groups, but Hwaro Yangmi actually has a vibe that works well even for larger groups, so it'd suit a company dinner or group gathering nicely 🍻 Plus, when a lot of people gather, picking the menu can get complicated — but here you can enjoy everything from lamb skewers to jumbo skewers to shoulder rack, so everyone can pick according to their taste.

Once you sit down, there's even a table cover printed with tips on how to enjoy the lamb — nice touch!

Tsingtao beer, a must with lamb skewers. And leaving a Naver receipt review for "Hwaro Yangmi Pyeongtaek Court Branch" gets you a free bottle of Tsingtao — how could I not do that;;

Side dishes that cut through the richness come out alongside the lamb skewers. Great to snack on between bites. Popping a peanut or two while waiting for the meat, waking up your palate with the tangy side dishes~ For company dinners or group visits, grilling meat, having a drink, and picking at these banchan (side dishes) along the way seemed like it'd be a lot of fun. Now that our appetite's properly primed with the banchan, finally — the lamb we've been waiting for! 🔥

100% chilled lamb grilled over white charcoal

One advantage across every Hwaro Yangmi location is that the staff grills the meat for you 🔥 Since they only use 100% chilled lamb — never thawed from frozen — they recommended trying it lightly grilled medium, dipped in salt. Not a hint of gamey smell, it just... melted 💗

Lamb grilling to medium over the charcoal fire

I think it tastes even better because it's grilled over charcoal. They also grill garlic alongside it, and the interesting thing is it's not sesame oil but butter!! The garlic gets soaked in butter fat 🧈

Salt, wasabi or butter: what to dip the lamb in

I love wasabi, so I had mine with a bit of salt and wasabi. Not sure which brand of wasabi they use, but it was clean and slightly sweet, exactly my taste.

I also dipped it in butter, hoping for a steak-like flavor, but it was just so-so haha

Why the shoulder rack was the best cut at Hwaro Yangmi

You could tell how good the quality of the meat was — even after grilling and leaving it over the heat a bit, there was no dried-out toughness at all. In fact, can you see the juices running out in the photo? Can raw meat really look like that..? haha

The owner trims the shoulder rack into easy-to-eat pieces and wraps the handle end in a tissue so it's not hot, handing each piece over one by one — great service haha This shoulder rack is insanely good. It's a cut with about a 5:5 ratio of lean meat to fat, so it really melts in your mouth, melts...

I brought a friend along and she kept begging to order another mixed platter, so I quietly told her to hush.

Drink fridge stocked with gaoliang liquor and bottled beers

I'm not much of a drinker so I don't know much about gaoliang liquor, but there were plenty of drink options — not just Tsingtao, but 5 kinds of bottled beer: Cass, Kelly, Terra, Harbin, and Tsingtao~

For two people sharing the mixed lamb platter, the portion and flavor were both great — very satisfying!

Hwaro Yangmi Pyeongtaek Court Branch: the verdict

The biggest strength of Hwaro Yangmi Pyeongtaek is the quality of the meat itself. Grilled over charcoal, there's barely any of the gamey smell lamb usually has, and since they use only 100% chilled meat, the texture was tender and moist. Even people who've hesitated because of the smell typical of lamb skewer places would likely find this easy to enjoy, and being able to choose different cuts means you can mix it up according to your taste. A solid spot for a casual drink with friends, or for a company dinner or group gathering!

  • ✔️ 100% chilled meat used
  • ✔️ Charcoal-grilled to cut down the gamey smell
  • ✔️ Tender texture
  • ✔️ Wide variety of lamb menu items
  • ✔️ Recommended for company dinners, group gatherings, and drinks with friends

I'd recommend this place not just to lamb lovers, but also to those who've held back from trying lamb because of its distinctive smell. 🥩🔥
