Giheung kalguksu restaurant with salt-sauce noodles: Jangwongap
In short
Jangwongap Kalguksu Yongin Giheung Branch is a minari (water dropwort) shabu-shabu kalguksu (knife-cut noodle) restaurant about 5 minutes by car from Lotte Outlet and IKEA in Giheung, Yongin. The meal covered chadol minari-wrap kalguksu at 15,500 won per person and a seafood pancake at 13,500 won, finished with the free kkakdugi fried rice, and the house-made noodles at Jangwongap Kalguksu tasted good tossed in nothing but the salt dipping sauce. Booking through CatchTable and snacking on puffed rice while waiting made the queue easy to handle.

🍂With the chill of autumn setting in, I went out for a family outing and found a restaurant that nails price, portions, and taste all at once~~ Let me introduce it excitedly🎤 It's [Jangwongap Kalguksu] in Giheung, Yongin.

As always, before the long review, let's look at some delicious photos first to whet your appetite😋

What we ordered at Jangwongap Kalguksu in Giheung, and what it cost
The seafood pancake was ₩13,500, and the toppings outweighed the batter!
My boyfriend and I ordered the chadol minari-wrap kalguksu (a noodle dish with brisket and water dropwort wraps) for ₩15,500 per person — nicknamed 'cha-mi-ssam' for short haha
At the end, we finished it off properly with the free kkakdugi (radish kimchi) fried rice too, packing in every last bit of Korean soul-food carbs.

Five minutes by car from IKEA and Lotte Outlet: how is parking?
The restaurant is about a 5-minute drive from Lotte Outlet Giheung, IKEA Yongin, and the Hanssem Living Power Center. It seemed like a good spot to eat quietly before heading into the crowded malls 🍜🍴
🅿️ The parking lot is outdoors and looked like it could fit about 50 cars, plus there was a parking attendant on duty, which was nice!

Weekend wait at Jangwongap Kalguksu: CatchTable booking and puffed rice
If you go on a weekend there's bound to be a wait. That said, the place is huge so turnover seems good!! They also take orders in advance. If you make a CatchTable reservation and sit munching on rice puffs inside, your turn comes up quickly. I was really impressed by how thoughtfully they treat waiting customers 🪑

There are signs all over the restaurant with statements of pride and consideration for customers, and somehow it doesn't feel cluttered or off-putting — instead it made me think, 'wow, this brand really means it,' which is a rare feeling to get from a franchise these days!

Right at the entrance they had a master craftsman trophy and were selling sesame oil and perilla oil. The prices weren't bad and the packaging was pretty, so it'd make a great gift!

There's a break time, so make sure to check before you go~

Inside Jangwongap Kalguksu: mood and space between tables
As you'd expect from a place doing brisk business, the table settings were perfect too.
The restaurant is genuinely spacious, and the gaps between tables were nice and wide. Maybe because it was the weekend, there seemed to be a lot of families eating together before heading off to shop.

The Jochiwon peach bibim mandu (dumplings) looked like it would be sweet and tangy and delicious, but ㅠㅠ it was sold out so I couldn't try it. I hope it's not sold out next time I go..🙏

Why the house-made noodles at Jangwongap Kalguksu taste different
At a kalguksu place, the noodles should be the best part, right? But these days everyone uses store-bought noodles so they all taste the same?? But Jangwongap's noodles are genuinely delicious. They're tasty even with just sesame oil on them. I'm not saying this because it's sponsored — they were seriously, truly delicious haha!!

The fresh kimchi salad (geotjeori) was tasty too. At a kalguksu place, it really is all about the noodles and the kimchi.

How to eat chadol minari-wrap kalguksu in the right order
Once the broth boils, you cook the brisket in it, then wrap it with fresh minari and dip it in the salt sauce — delicious. There's a helpful diagram showing the eating order printed right there, which made it easy.

For the noodles, there's an hourglass timer and an actual formula for how many minutes makes them taste best haha. Very fitting for a place run by a certified kalguksu noodle master.

The noodles were so good I think I just ate them dipped only in the salt sauce. 😋😋😋 I'm telling you, the noodles are on another level!!

Seafood pancake and the free kkakdugi fried rice
The pancake came out maybe 5 minutes after ordering, thin and crispy. Some places call it 'seafood' pancake but skimp on the toppings — here the shrimp and squid pieces were big and generous.

Free fried rice in this day and age...🤭 It's made with minari and kkakdugi and had a clean, refreshing flavor👏
Puffed rice and grandma-style misugaru (roasted grain drink) for dessert
It was nice being able to snack on rice puffs while waiting or as dessert after the meal.
Puffed corn snacks are only sweet when warm, and they'd kept them in a rice cooker to keep them warm (great touch).

My boyfriend said the grandma-style misugaru was rich and delicious and drank about two cups haha. His satisfaction was visible even through the mosaic haha.
This was my honest review of Jangwongap, a rising star in the minari kalguksu scene that might just give Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu a run for its money! I'll definitely be back~ says the owner haha.
