Yongin shabu-shabu restaurant with flat kalguksu: Yun Ujae

In short

Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu Gogidong Branch is a shabu-shabu and kalguksu restaurant in Yongin, Gyeonggi. We chose spicy red broth, added 140 g of sirloin, and wrapped the tender flat kalguksu noodles in meat. Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu Gogidong Branch is a place I would happily visit again.

I found Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu Gogidong Branch while looking for good restaurants in Yongin. The restaurant was comfortable, and the food was delicious too. It was great being able to have both kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) and shabu-shabu all at once—such a good kalguksu spot near Gogiri!

A convenient stop near Gogiri, with parking

It was in a handy location to stop by while passing through the Gogiri area, and parking was available, so it was easy to drive there. The exterior was neat too.

Please refer to the photo for the parking information. When the lot is full on weekdays, parking is directed to the roadside where the school-zone restriction has been lifted; on weekends and public holidays, parking is directed to the daycare center across the street.

Best of all, there is no break time on weekends, so it was easy to visit whenever we wanted.

An in-house noodle room and plenty of family seating

There was a separate in-house noodle-making room on one side, and it looked like they make the noodles right there. That made me even more excited to try the kalguksu.

The interior was very clean, with quite a lot of tables. There were also private-room seats, so it looked nice for a family meal. High chairs were ready too, so I imagine plenty of families come with children.

There was a separate waiting area to sit in, and Catchtable reservations are available, so booking ahead would be convenient during busy times!

Spicy red broth with an extra order of sirloin

For the shabu-shabu broth, you can choose white or red, then choose mild, regular, or spicy heat. We ordered the spicy red shabu-kalguksu and added 140 g of sirloin. And one cola too.

While we waited, I read the guide on how to enjoy the shabu-shabu. It even listed the induction heat setting and kalguksu cooking time, so we followed the instructions.

Then the food started arriving in earnest, and the utensils came soaking in warm water. It felt like they paid attention to hygiene, so I wanted to give them extra points for that.

A full Yongin shabu-shabu spread! Kalguksu and fried rice come as part of the set. We chose half regular kalguksu and half flat kalguksu.

We also added sirloin for shabu-shabu, and the meat itself seemed good quality, so I was glad we added it.

You can add Cheongyang chili peppers to the sauce, so since I love spicy food, I piled them in. Shabu-shabu was delicious dipped in this spicy sauce.

Silky flat kalguksu wrapped with meat

Once the base broth starts boiling, call over a staff member and they will add the flat kalguksu. That is when you can really start eating. A staff member came over and added the meat for us too.

And then, these flat kalguksu noodles!! They lay them in one layer at a time. The flat kalguksu turns wonderfully soft, and these noodles...

Flat kalguksu becoming soft in the broth

Wrapped together with the meat, the texture is seriously so good. The meat is chewy, while the flat kalguksu is soft, tender, and silky—it was such a lovely combination. Personally, I had not been a big fan of flat noodles, but Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu Gogidong Branch completely changed my mind. Next time, I would even want to order an extra portion of flat kalguksu.

At Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu Gogidong Branch, the spicy shabu broth also came with big chunks of mushrooms.

Finishing with minari and stir-fried kimchi fried rice

We finished with fried rice. It came with minari (water dropwort), seaweed flakes, and stir-fried kimchi.

They left a little broth in the pot and quickly made the fried rice. It was such a nice, clean way to finish!

We walked out after such a delicious meal at Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu Gogidong Branch!! I recommend it as a Yongin restaurant. Definitely a place I will return to!
