Family café in Yeongjongdo for peach iced tea: 5PM sunset hour

Today I'm bringing you the story of a bakery café I love and think of every time I go to Yeongjongdo — 5PM sunset hour. There are so many pretty cafés and delicious bakery cafés on Yeongjongdo, but this is the one I often go to when I'm craving salt bread. It's famous for salt bread, but when you actually visit, every other bakery item is delicious too, which makes for a really satisfying visit. If you love bread, it's worth stopping by at least once when you're on Yeongjongdo.

Where is 5PM sunset hour, and when does the bread come out?

5PM sunset hour is a bakery café located at 380 Eunhasu-ro, Yeongjong-gu, Incheon, 1st floor unit 103 of the KCC Sweetien commercial building in Yeongjong Haneul City. Hours are Monday 07:00-18:00, Tuesday through Sunday 07:00-19:00, and parking is free.

Bakery items apparently come out gradually starting from 9am. Since it opens early in the morning, it seems like a good option if you're nearby looking for breakfast or bread. That said, since it's a popular bakery café, if you visit later in the day, the bread you want might already be sold out. When we visited, quite a bit of bread had already run out too. Still, there were more varieties left than I expected, so it was fun looking through them one by one.

The orange exterior and cosy look of 5PM sunset hour

5PM sunset hour isn't a huge large-scale café, but it's cozy and the space is put together well. Above all, the exterior catches your eye right away — the orange facade is really pretty. It stands out enough that even from a distance you think, 'oh, that café looks pretty!' I liked the charming atmosphere too.

Walking inside, you see cute little props scattered around, and the overall atmosphere is comfortable and warm, making it a nice place to stop for coffee and bread. The indoor seating is on the compact side, but the space is used well. When we visited it was the weekend, so there were quite a lot of customers — as expected of a place known by word of mouth as a bakery spot on Yeongjongdo, people kept coming in. On a nice-weather day, the outdoor seats would be great too.

Is 5PM sunset hour good with a child?

Personally, there were parts I appreciated about visiting with my child — jelly straws were prepared for kids. Little touches like that are somehow always nice :-) There were also cute little props to look at, so I don't think a child would get bored at this café.

What else 5PM sunset hour bakes besides salt bread

5PM sunset hour really has a wide variety of baked goods. I thought it was only famous for salt bread, but once I actually saw the display case, there were so many appetizing breads that I spent a while deciding what to pick, haha. From plain breads to sweet desserts, there was enough variety to choose according to taste. It was the kind of display where picking just one felt like a shame — you want to grab a bit of everything.

After picking our bread and ordering drinks, we grabbed a spot on the outdoor terrace. On days when the weather is cool and pleasant like this, eating outside is really the best. We especially chose the outdoor seats that day because I wanted to feel a bit of the autumn mood, and the atmosphere turned out to be even nicer than expected.

Once we settled in, a staff member brought our order out to us directly. Seeing the drinks and bread laid out so nicely made me want to reach for my camera first, haha. Placed on the outdoor table, everything looked even prettier and the atmosphere felt even better. There really is nothing happier than a coffee paired with delicious bread at a café.

Drinks at 5PM sunset hour: decaf americano to peach iced tea

First, I tried my own decaf americano. I tend to cut back on caffeine in the late afternoon, so I ordered decaf again this time. The coffee turned out to taste surprisingly good. When I go to a bakery café, I care quite a bit about the coffee too, not just the bread, and 5PM sunset hour was a good place to enjoy both together. It was clean yet flavorful, perfect alongside bread.

My husband ordered the vanilla latte, and the sweet vanilla aroma blended well with the flavor of the beans, so he enjoyed it too. If you like a sweet latte, this is an easy-to-enjoy flavor.

And then the peach iced tea my child ordered! She said it was really tasty. It felt a bit more upscale than an ordinary iced tea, with chewy, jelly-like peach chunks inside that were fun to bite into. She kept eating it saying it was delicious, haha. When you go to a café with a kid, a place with a drink they can actually enjoy — rather than just coffee — is a little more convenient, and this was a point in its favor too.

The buttery salt bread at 5PM sunset hour

And now the main reason I come here — the salt bread! If you love salt bread, you probably already know just by looking at it. The outside was crispy while the inside was moist and soft, which I really loved. Especially when you split the salt bread in half, there's a cute little butter cave right in the middle where the butter melted — that's part of the charm of salt bread, right, haha. The rich, savory butter flavor comes through along with a salty edge, making it hard to stop reaching for more. 'Crispy outside, moist inside' really fits this salt bread. I visited expecting only the salt bread since it's known as the salt bread spot, but honestly I got curious about the other bakery items too. Next time I want to visit a bit earlier so I can pick out a wider variety of bread.

Butter rice cake, the one my child loved most

Surprisingly, the item my child liked best was the butter rice cake. At first I picked one just because the name caught my curiosity, but tasting it, the combination turned out to work really well. The outside has a sweet, savory streusel-like flavor, while the inside has a chewy rice cake texture. With that sweet-and-chewy combination, of course a kid would love it.

My child ate it happily, saying it was delicious, haha. I went in thinking only about the salt bread since it's the signature menu item, but ended up enjoying the butter rice cake just as much.

5PM sunset hour isn't a huge large-scale café, but it was a place I enjoyed for its charming atmosphere paired with delicious baked goods.

The salt bread in particular stood out for its buttery flavor and crispy texture, and the butter rice cake was appealing for its chewy rice cake combined with a sweet streusel-like feel. The coffee was satisfying too, and with a peach iced tea my child could enjoy, it was a good spot to visit as a family.

Most of all, sitting on the outdoor terrace on a nice-weather day eating coffee and bread gave me such a relaxed, unwinding feeling.
