Seongnam Korean restaurant lunch: bossam and DIY fried rice

In short

Bossam Ae Kalguksu Seongnam Sangdaewon Branch is a Korean restaurant in Sangdaewon-dong, Seongnam, Gyeonggi. We paired small gabrisal bossam with complimentary kalguksu for two, makguksu, and a ₩1,000 raw egg for DIY fried rice. A filling meal from tender pork to the final fried rice.

While looking for a satisfying place to eat in Seongnam, I visited Bossam Ae Kalguksu Seongnam Sangdaewon Branch (보쌈애칼국수 성남상대원점) 😊 When you are looking for somewhere to eat around Sangdaewon-dong, there are so many menu options to consider, from lunch to a family meal—but I am going to introduce a restaurant that ticks all those boxes! ✨

The atmosphere at Bossam Ae Kalguksu Seongnam Sangdaewon Branch 🏠

Once inside, the restaurant felt more spacious and pleasant than I expected. The tables were nicely spaced out, so it was comfortable for a meal, and the staff were kind too—such a good first impression from the start 😊

I thought it would be a good choice not only for people looking for a great restaurant in Sangdaewon-dong, but also for anyone nearby looking for a place to eat!

Bossam set meals and side dishes

The main menu has small, medium, and large gabrisal bossam, along with a single-serving bossam set meal. It includes bossam, kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup), and a bowl of rice, and for a price in the low ₩10,000 range, I think it is a really good deal. Maybe because of the bossam set meal, this was the first time I had seen people dining alone at a bossam restaurant! Haha.

For sides, there were makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles) and seafood minari pancake, plus dumplings, vegetables, sujebi (hand-torn dough flakes), and raw egg as extra add-ins for the kalguksu.

The self-service bar was neatly set up, too. You could freely help yourself to kimchi, rice, water, and vegetables 😊

Small gabrisal bossam with complimentary kalguksu

What we ordered was the small gabrisal bossam, recommended for two! At Bossam Ae Kalguksu, they use gabrisal pork boiled fresh that very day 👏

It is disappointing when bossam meat is too dry, but this gabrisal bossam was softer and moister than I expected, which I loved 😊 Perhaps thanks to gabrisal's naturally tender texture, it hardly felt dry at all, and each bite went down easily.

When you eat bossam, continuing with only meat can get a little rich, but it made a great combination with the accompanying dishes 👏👏

The bossam kimchi is so delicious 🥹 You have to pile it onto cabbage with bossam and salted shrimp—that is the proper way!!

I also liked that ordering gabrisal bossam comes with complimentary kalguksu for two ✨ Being able to have kalguksu alongside bossam made it a very satisfying full meal.

The sweet-and-tangy makguksu pairing

We also ordered sweet-and-tangy makguksu to have with the bossam! (Makguksu ₩10,000)

You really cannot leave out makguksu with bossam. Mix the chewy noodles well with the sauce, then eat them with a piece of bossam, and the clean flavor of the pork and the tangy makguksu keep you reaching for more 👍 Having bossam, kalguksu, and makguksu together gave us such a nice variety.

Even though it is complimentary, the kalguksu portion is really generous. It is plenty for two people! We ate it after finishing the bossam~! It is served at the same time, though, so you can enjoy it while eating the bossam too.

DIY fried rice with an added raw egg

And of course, fried rice is the perfect ending to a meal 🫶 Add a raw egg (₩1,000), and you can make your own fried rice by adding free bowls of rice and the fried-rice ingredients yourself.

Even though we were quite full, fried rice has its own appeal, so I kept eating little by little 😂

A satisfying bossam meal in Sangdaewon-dong

Overall, the restaurant was spacious and pleasant, and the staff were kind, so we could eat comfortably 😊 What I especially liked was that the gabrisal bossam was tender rather than dry, and with the complimentary kalguksu and DIY fried rice at the end, it felt like we had made the most of one meal. I thought the menu would suit not only people looking for bossam in Seongnam, but also those seeking a Sangdaewon-dong meal or a workday lunch around Sangdaewon-dong. If you are considering where to eat while looking around Sangdaewon Market, the Sangdaewon Industrial Complex, or Dandaeogeori, it would be worth adding to your list 👏
