O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch, known in Hanam for its nurungjitang (scorched-rice soup)! Let me tell you about this Hanam Misa spot for family gatherings, where you can take your parents for a gentle-on-the-stomach seafood nurungjitang and crispy-outside, tender-inside mini tangsuyuk.

As the weather has gotten quite a bit cooler lately, I found myself craving something warm and nourishing. So, for a change of pace, I visited the much-talked-about O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch.

Location and parking at O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch
The restaurant occupies a large standalone building right by the road, so it was really easy to spot at a glance. Best of all, there is a spacious dedicated parking lot immediately out front, so I could visit by car without any parking worries.
A spacious dining hall and self-service bar
Once inside, the first things I noticed were the open, spacious scale of the restaurant and the pleasantly arranged seating.

The dining hall was wide with high ceilings, so it did not feel stuffy at all. The tables were generously spaced too, making me think it would be just right for weekend groups or family gatherings in Hanam Misa.

It felt more like a modern, tidy large-scale restaurant than a traditional Korean restaurant, and I really liked how clean and well maintained it was.

There was also a neat self-service bar in the center of the restaurant, where I could refill any side dishes I wanted without feeling self-conscious.

We ordered the signature seafood nurungjitang along with the mini tangsuyuk.

After a short while, a serving robot safely brought over the basic side dishes, which was fun to watch too.

Seafood nurungjitang that changes with time
The main dishes arrived right after that, and their generous appearance drew an immediate wow. The broth came in a shallow pool, savory with deep umami, and the flavors of assorted seafood and mushrooms had soaked in richly. It was pleasantly salty and somehow deeply soothing.
Thickened with starch, it had a soft, pillowy texture that went down very smoothly, and it stayed warm for a long time until the very last bite. What was especially fun was how the texture of the nurungji changed over time.

At first, the scorched rice retained its crispness in the hot ttukbaegi (earthenware pot). As time passed, the rich broth soaked deep into the glutinous-rice nurungji, turning it chewy and soft, and even easier to eat.

Springy seafood including squid, shrimp, and webfoot octopus came together with a variety of vegetables such as bok choy, shiitake mushrooms, and bamboo shoots, giving it a really satisfying bite as well.

Because it was not at all overpowering or spicy, it felt easy on the stomach, almost like a nourishing restorative meal. It is the kind of dish that both children and adults would enjoy without much hesitation.
A generous mini tangsuyuk
The mini tangsuyuk that came alongside it may have been called “mini,” but the portion was truly generous.

Its batter contained glutinous-rice flour, giving it a cleaner, whiter appearance than ordinary tangsuyuk. It was the very definition of crispy outside and tender inside, with a crisp exterior and that distinctive springy chew of glutinous rice within.

It was not just thick batter: there were substantial pieces of meat inside, tender and without any unpleasant odor. The neatly balanced sweet-and-sour sauce was not overly sweet, so I could enjoy it cleanly without any greasiness.
The pairing of hot soup and crisp tangsuyuk was so good that I would strongly recommend it for a Hanam Misa family gathering or meal out. If you are looking for a family restaurant where everyone can enjoy a comforting, generous meal, be sure to stop by O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch!
