When you take your parents out for a weekend drive and a meal, a neat Korean set meal that sits comfortably in the stomach is always the first thing you look for, right? I visited Jigueseo On Jjukkumi Hanam Main Branch, a hidden gem in Chunggung-dong, Hanam, where apples, pears, shiitake mushrooms, and other natural ingredients are used instead of artificial capsaicin, and fragrant perilla oil pressed at a mill is served with freshly cooked pot rice! From the big, plump jjukkumi (webfoot octopus) pot-rice set that could rival octopus, to the spacious private parking lot and dessert corner, I’ll cover it all!

A comfortable interior for family meals

Once inside, the high ceiling makes the space feel airy, never cramped. The overall atmosphere is warm and homey, and I noticed lots of older diners and three-generation families eating together! You know how restaurants frequented by older guests have already been vetted for both flavor and ease on the stomach, right?
Perilla-oil jjukkumi pot-rice set

💡 Jigueseo On Jjukkumi’s wholesome philosophy Seasoning with 14 natural ingredients. For a spicy flavor that is comfortable rather than harsh, they say they steep Korean chili powder every morning with apples, pears, shiitake mushrooms, goji berries, omija (five-flavor berry), and more to draw out natural sweetness and savoriness.

Perilla oil delivered directly from the mill Rather than factory-processed oil, they use fresh perilla oil pressed directly at a mill. They say its deep, nutty flavor, without a machine-like smell, brings out the smoky wok flavor of the jjukkumi even more.

Jjukkumi pot-rice set ₩13,000
Today, we ordered the signature jjukkumi pot-rice set, which comes with freshly cooked pot rice and side dishes!

As the table was set, it was packed enough to rival a full Korean set-menu restaurant: hot miyeokguk (seaweed soup), glossy japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), fresh salad, kimchi, myeongnanjeot (salted pollock roe)—a true rice thief—and a little dish of nutty perilla oil.
🐙 Octopus or jjukkumi?! Overwhelming size and texture. The moment I saw the jjukkumi on the plate, I was shocked: “Isn’t this practically octopus?!” Hahaha! These were not tiny jjukkumi; their legs were so thick and large that I had to cut them with scissors into bite-size pieces. Quickly stir-fried over high heat, they were wonderfully springy and chewy without a trace of toughness.

I opened the lid of the steaming, freshly cooked pot rice and generously transferred the rice into a bowl. Then I mixed it well with the large stir-fried jjukkumi, drizzling on plenty of mill-pressed perilla oil. After the pleasantly spicy natural fruit seasoning, the rich nuttiness of the perilla oil wraps around everything; add a little salty myeongnanjeot, and it reaches peak umami. It was not an artificial, stomach-irritating heat, but gently clean and spicy, so I kept marveling right through the last spoonful.
Scorched-rice tea and garden dessert

After mixing up and finishing the rice, I opened the pot that I had poured water into earlier and soothed my stomach with warm, nutty nurungji sungnyung (scorched-rice tea). A sip after the spicy jjukkumi made this a perfect course that left my stomach feeling settled.

When you step outside after the meal, there is a dessert corner for guests! There is a fragrant freshly ground coffee machine, along with sweet, cool complimentary ice cream.

Sitting in the garden with cool ice cream and a cup of coffee, chatting at leisure, made me realize there was no need to go to a separate café.

From jjukkumi as large as octopus with its satisfyingly chewy texture, to the deep flavor of mill-pressed perilla oil, freshly cooked pot rice, and gentle natural seasoning, Jigueseo On Jjukkumi in Hanam was a perfect harmony! With its large parking lot and neat menu composition, I recommend it as a healthy Korean restaurant for a weekend family outing or a meal with your parents.
