Introduction to a visit to O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch

I visited O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch (오형제황제누룽지탕 하남미사본점), a great spot for a family gathering near Hanam Starfield and in Misa, Hanam. I tried its signature seafood nurungjitang (scorched-rice soup) and fresh tenderloin glutinous sweet-and-sour pork—the textbook definition of crisp outside, tender inside.

There was a wide, roomy parking area right in front of the restaurant, so I could park comfortably without any stress.

A spacious, pleasant dining-room atmosphere

The standalone building and its surroundings were neatly kept. Inside, instead of the oily smell often associated with Chinese restaurants, there was a gentle, savory scent of nurungji.

Spacious and pleasant dining room

The dining room was very spacious and pleasant. The tables were generously spaced apart too, so my first thought was that it would be perfect for a family meal or gathering. In fact, I saw quite a few families dining with their elderly parents.

A self-service bar with side dishes and fruit

The centrally located self-service bar had not only the complimentary side dishes but oranges too. I especially loved that it was maintained so cleanly—truly hotel-level clean.

The menu and table-ordering system

O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang menu

Today’s order was seafood nurungjitang and fresh tenderloin glutinous sweet-and-sour pork.

We ordered from the kiosk installed at each table, and a robot served the side dishes. Since the food is cooked to order rather than made ahead, the nurungjitang came out incredibly hot.

Seafood nurungjitang arrives with a satisfying sizzle

A staff member put crispy fried nurungji into a large earthenware pot, then poured thick seafood sauce over it as a little performance. At that moment, it went “sssssizzle,” and a savory aroma burst out, instantly making me hungry.

This seafood nurungjitang is made by simmering assorted seafood and vegetables for a long time, with a deep, rich flavor that makes you say, “Ahh, that’s so refreshing,” without even thinking.

The broth was thick but never heavy or murky, and it went down very smoothly. It had such a wholesome, refined flavor that guests of all ages—and especially elderly parents—would surely appreciate it.

It was generously filled with fresh squid, shrimp, mussels, mushrooms, bok choy, broccoli, and more, so there was no need to worry about finding an empty spoonful.

I poured the sauce over the fresh tenderloin glutinous sweet-and-sour pork

The fresh tenderloin glutinous sweet-and-sour pork costs ₩26,000. There is also a mini size for ₩20,000, so it would be nice to choose according to the occasion.

The sweet-and-sour pork arrived with a pale, clean-looking batter. Its bright, lovely color made it obvious that it had been fried in clean oil. As its name suggests, it uses fresh tenderloin, so the meat was thick while retaining its texture.

The sweet-and-tangy sweet-and-sour sauce comes separately, so you can dip each piece in it. But I got impatient and just poured it all over—whoosh!

My thoughts after a weekday-evening family meal

I visited O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch, a popular restaurant near Hanam Starfield and in Misa, for a weekday dinner. Perhaps because it was a weekday, there was no wait. I loved being able to eat in a relaxed atmosphere without noise or crowds.

The seafood nurungjitang felt like a nourishing, healthy meal, which I really liked. The fresh tenderloin glutinous sweet-and-sour pork we ordered alongside it had such clean oil that it felt like upscale hotel sweet-and-sour pork. I came away thinking this is a wholesome restaurant that is great for family meals and for bringing elderly parents. If you are looking for a good restaurant near Hanam Starfield or a place in Hanam Misa to bring your parents, I strongly recommend it!
