Aewol pork noodle restaurant with a full lot at opening: Handam Guksu

In short

Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch is a pork noodle (gogi-guksu) restaurant with floor-to-ceiling ocean-view windows on Aewol-ro in Aewol, Jeju. Arriving a few minutes after opening, the family found the lot in front already full, parked nearby and walked over, then ordered two rich bone broth noodles and one dongchimi bibim noodles for four people. The noodles are thinner than usual medium wheat noodles and yellow, and the tangy, crisp self-serve kimchi made Handam Guksu an easy lunch with kids.

I want to introduce a noodle restaurant that made for a really satisfying lunch with the kids on this Jeju trip. It's 'Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch,' near Aewol Beach. My kids love noodles way more than rice, and since we had reason to be in Aewol anyway, I looked it up and we went~

Parking at Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch: full even right after opening

Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch has parking spots set up right in front of the restaurant! We arrived just a few minutes past opening time, and the lot in front was already packed with cars. Even though it hadn't been open long, word had clearly already spread — so we parked elsewhere and walked over.

Besides the lot in front, there's an empty lot beside the restaurant, and if you use the nearby Landy's Donuts lot or the Handam Coastal Trail lot, they'll cover 1 hour of parking. Worth knowing if you're visiting so you can park without stress.

The moment I walked in, what caught my eye was the sweeping Aewol ocean view through the floor-to-ceiling windows! With windows across the whole front, just looking out at the scenery while waiting for food felt genuinely healing. The place overall was very clean and pleasant. Even though we came early, there were quite a few customers already, so you could feel how popular this place is. And there are baby chairs too!

The self-serve kimchi corner is the real surprise

There's also a neatly arranged salad bar self-serve corner on one side, so it was nice to be able to grab whatever sides you need. And a noodle restaurant lives and dies by its kimchi, right? The kimchi here was genuinely tangy, sweet, and crunchy — so good! It reminded me all over again that a great noodle restaurant always starts with great kimchi. The kimchi alone could make you polish off a whole bowl of rice.

Menu and prices: what a family of four ordered

Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch's signature noodles come in three kinds.

  • Rich bone broth noodles (₩10,000)
  • Dongchimi bibim noodles (₩10,000)
  • Mala pork noodles

We ordered two rich bone broth noodles for the kids and one dongchimi bibim noodles for my husband, who was craving something spicy.

After a short wait, our noodles arrived, and I was surprised by how generous the portions were! Plenty of meat too — it looked filling just to see it.

Thin yellow noodles that sit light

One thing I really liked was the noodles themselves. They have a pretty yellow tint and are slightly thinner than regular medium noodles, so the broth's seasoning soaked in really well. Being thin, they were also easy on the stomach and digested well after eating. Plenty of bean sprouts added a nice crunchy texture too.

True to its name, the rich bone broth noodles have a genuinely deep, rich broth. The broth is refreshing and warms you up from the inside, so both the adults and kids loved it. Pile a piece of well-fermented kimchi on the thin yellow noodles and take a big bite — so good!

The kids ate well too since the noodles were soft and the broth was savory. The meat was tasty and tender too^^

Dongchimi bibim noodles: how spicy are they?

My husband picked the dongchimi bibim noodles, where you pour in some cool, slightly tangy dongchimi (radish water kimchi) broth and mix it into the bibim noodles yourself. After one bite, he said, 'Oh, this tastes like jjolmyeon (chewy cold noodles)!' and it was exactly his taste — he inhaled it.

My husband said it wasn't very spicy and ate it happily, but for me — someone who can't handle spicy food well — there was a slight tingling heat at the finish! But it's not spicy enough that you can't eat it, haha! There was also plenty of meat on top, and the combo of bibim noodles and meat was great.

Is Handam Guksu a good lunch with kids?

My husband, me, and our kids — all four of us walked out full and satisfied. Generous meat, generous noodles, great value for money, and best of all, we got to eat while looking out at the wide-open Aewol sea, which really set the mood for a Jeju trip.

If you're looking for a special, delicious Aewol pork noodle restaurant that the whole family can enjoy without complaints during a Jeju trip, Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch — with its ocean view, generous portions, and great kimchi — is worth a visit~
