This time, I went to Sinbaegok Yang Kkochi Gyeongan Branch (신백옥양꼬치 경안점) for dinner with my husband and son. We were deciding on a family dinner menu and suddenly felt like having lamb skewers for the first time in a while.
We ordered original lamb skewers, seasoned lamb skewers, and the signature three-color guobaorou (sweet-and-sour fried pork). At first, we thought this would be enough, but the original lamb skewers were so good that we ended up ordering another serving.

If you are looking for somewhere comfortable for a family meal in Gyeongan-dong, or good lamb skewers in Gwangju, Gyeonggi, let me introduce this place.

Location and parking at Sinbaegok Yang Kkochi Gyeongan Branch
Sinbaegok Yang Kkochi Gyeongan Branch is near Gyeongan-dong Rodeo Street, on the second floor of the building. A few cars can park in the building lot, but it is not especially spacious, so it is worth considering a nearby public parking lot if there are no spaces.

And if you are visiting at dinner time, I recommend making a reservation in advance.
We had reserved too, so we could sit down and eat right away without waiting.

It can get busy during mealtimes, so it seemed more convenient to reserve ahead if you are coming for a family dinner or a gathering in Gwangju, Gyeonggi.
A bright, open restaurant
The first thing I noticed upon entering was how bright and neat it was. When you think of a lamb-skewer restaurant, you might picture a slightly dark or smoky, stuffy atmosphere, but Sinbaegok Yang Kkochi Gyeongan Branch felt different.

Overall, it was bright, and the tables and seating were comfortable. The chairs in particular were comfortable, which made it nice for a relaxed family meal.

What I especially liked were the folding doors. The ones by the windows can be opened wide, creating a lovely open feel; on a nice day, I think you could enjoy lamb skewers in an even fresher atmosphere.
There was plenty of room in the restaurant, so it also looked suitable for get-togethers with friends or company dinners in Gwangju, Gyeonggi, not just family meals.

Above all, the owner was so kind. They looked after us so that we could eat comfortably throughout the meal, and we were able to enjoy dinner in a really pleasant mood.

Original and seasoned lamb skewers

Finally, the star of the day: lamb skewers! Rather than ordering just one kind, we ordered both the original and seasoned lamb skewers.
Once you line the skewers up on the grill, they rotate automatically as they cook to a nice golden brown. Watching the lamb skewers cook is quietly fun too, isn't it?
We started with the original lamb skewers. The seasoning was not overpowering, so they were great for enjoying the flavor of the lamb itself, and I kept reaching for them with cumin spice. They suited our family's tastes really well.

Next came the seasoned lamb skewers! They had a different flavor from the original, so alternating between the two gave us more variety than having only one kind.

If it is your first visit, I think it would be nice to order one original and one seasoned serving as we did, then compare them.

When we had almost finished our first order of skewers, we felt it was a little disappointing to stop. So we ended up ordering more. I think the fact that we ordered another serving says best how satisfied our family was that day. If you are looking for lamb skewers in Gyeongan-dong, you could try half original and half seasoned.
Signature three-color guobaorou with a standout look

The dish we ordered alongside the lamb skewers was the signature three-color guobaorou. Rather than one standard style of guobaorou, it came in three flavors—original, black-vinegar soy sauce with squid ink, and chili—so we could enjoy a variety all at once.

As soon as it arrived at the table, the visuals caught my eye. Each portion was a different color, making it great for photos, and having the lamb skewers and three-color guobaorou together made the table look wonderfully plentiful.

Instead of eating just one flavor, we could taste all three one by one, and it was fun for everyone in the family to choose the flavor that suited their taste.

Having a piece of guobaorou between lamb skewers was a great combination too. Especially if you are visiting with several people, I think it is a good dish to order with the skewers and share. I recommend the lamb-skewer-plus-three-color-guobaorou combination.
Overall thoughts after our family dinner
The three of us—my husband, son, and I—visited together, and it had a comfortable atmosphere for a family dinner. Lamb skewers can feel like food to have over drinks, but Sinbaegok Yang Kkochi Gyeongan Branch was bright with comfortable seating, so it did not feel at all awkward to visit as a family.

There were also Chinese dishes to enjoy alongside the lamb skewers, so it seemed great for a larger group to order a variety of dishes and share.
