Deciding on a menu when you're eating out with family or friends in Dongtan can be surprisingly stressful.

You want meat, you want a hot soup, if kids are coming along you'd love a play area too, and if you're driving, parking needs to be easy on top of all that.

This time I visited Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Dongtan Branch (편백회관 동탄점), on the 2nd floor of Granvia Star near Dongtan Station.

In short, this is a place where you enjoy an unlimited course starting with cypress steamed dishes and moving through beef, shabu-shabu, knife-cut noodles, and finally porridge.

With a salad bar on top of all that, the whole meal feels like it follows a set order from start to finish — honestly, I went out for a meal and came back feeling like I'd run a full-course marathon.

The unlimited course starts with cypress steam

The first thing you eat at Pyeonbaek Hoegwan is the cypress steamed dish.

They say it's made with a traditional method using 12 kinds of medicinal herbs, and it's not something you eat right after ordering — it takes about 10 minutes to cook nicely.

You can hit the salad bar while you wait.

Once the cypress steam is ready, you can eat it wrapped in fresh spring rolls or dipped in a special sauce.

There are several sauce options too — I dipped just the meat in soy sauce sometimes, and other times wrapped it up with peanut sauce.

You'd think that's the end after the cypress steam, but that's actually where the real marathon begins.

Beef first, then straight into shabu-shabu

After the cypress steam, you get to enjoy beef and shabu-shabu.

For shabu-shabu, you can choose your broth to taste — spicy broth, chicken broth, bone-marrow mala broth, and more are all available.

According to staff, the seafood broth and spicy broth are especially popular.

Loading the shabu-shabu pot generously with napa cabbage and mushrooms makes the broth taste even more refreshing, and the meat — lean rump cap and savory beef brisket — just needs a light cook.

Having already filled up once on cypress steam and then eating shabu-shabu on top of that, I started feeling pretty full.

The problem is, it wasn't over yet.

Knife-cut noodles and porridge finish the course

After the shabu-shabu, you add knife-cut noodles (kalguksu) to the leftover broth.

Once you've had a round of chewy noodles, the last stop is, of course, porridge.

It's made by adding rice, seaweed flakes, and sesame oil to the shabu-shabu broth and simmering it.

Final porridge made with rice, seaweed flakes, and sesame oil

Cypress steam → beef → shabu-shabu → noodles → porridge.

Add the salad bar on top of that and you'll understand why I keep calling this a full-course marathon.

I was already full halfway through, and by the time I finished the last bit of porridge, I genuinely wanted to loosen my belt.

I'd recommend wearing comfortable clothes rather than anything with a tight waistband when you visit.

A 110-pyeong hall that fits big group gatherings

Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Dongtan Branch runs on a spacious floor of about 110 pyeong.

That makes it good not just for family meals but also for friend gatherings and company dinners with several people.

For families moving around with kids in particular, the kids' playroom stands out.

Having a space where kids can play a bit while the adults eat is a pretty important part of family dining out.

So it seemed useful both for office workers looking for a group dinner spot in Dongtan and for Dongtan moms looking for a restaurant they can take their kids to.

Weekday lunch at Pyeonbaek Hoegwan: 16,900 won until 3pm

If you're planning a group meal, the price is worth checking too.

According to the restaurant, if you visit on a weekday before 3pm, you can enjoy the same menu for 16,900 won.

With cypress steam, shabu-shabu, beef, noodles, porridge, and the salad bar all included, this is a pretty practical option if you're planning a weekday lunch gathering.

These days, plenty of companies do a big lunch together instead of an evening dinner.

It works well for a casual group lunch with coworkers, or a relaxed weekday meal with family.

What to do at Granvia Star after your meal

One nice thing about Granvia Star, where Pyeonbaek Hoegwan is located, is that there's plenty to do after eating.

The building has a kids' café, a bowling alley, tennis courts, a table tennis room, a golf practice range, and an indoor fishing pond, among other facilities.

So instead of just eating and going home, you can easily plan a meal plus some leisure time.

If you're with kids, you can use the kids' zone or kids' café, and if you're out with friends, you can move on to bowling or another sport to keep the day going.

It also works well to grab a movie and shopping at Lotte Department Store before eating, or to visit after a walk around Dongtan Lake Park.

Looking for a restaurant near Dongtan Station? Check the course menu first

The biggest thing I noticed at Pyeonbaek Hoegwan that day was that it's not about one single dish — you get to eat several things in sequence in one visit.

It's not just cypress steam, and it's not just shabu-shabu.

You start with cypress steam, move on to beef, simmer up shabu-shabu, and finish with noodles and porridge.

And the salad bar is there to use along the way.

That means there's less to argue over when you're visiting with a group, which is a real plus.

For family meals, friend gatherings, or company dinners with a lot of people, this kind of course-style meal can actually be more convenient.

If you're looking for restaurants near Dongtan Station and want cypress steam and shabu-shabu together, this unlimited course is worth checking out.

What to check when booking a group dinner in Dongtan

If I were choosing a group dinner spot in Dongtan, there are three things I'd check first.

  • Is parking convenient?
  • Is the restaurant spacious enough?
  • Can people with different food preferences all eat happily?

Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Dongtan Branch checks these boxes — you can use the basement level 4 parking at Granvia Star with 3 hours free, the 110-pyeong hall is spacious, and the menu centers on cypress steam and shabu-shabu alongside a range of other dishes you can enjoy all in one visit.

And if you're planning a lunch gathering, it's worth remembering that it's 16,900 won until 3pm on weekdays.

Was the full course worth it?

At first I thought I'd just have the cypress steam and head out, but I ended up finishing all the way to the porridge.

Cypress steam, then beef, then simmering shabu-shabu, then noodles, then finally porridge.

At that point, it's not really dining out anymore — it's a genuine full-course marathon.

So this visit to a restaurant near Dongtan Station stuck in my memory as a day where eating until I was completely full was basically the whole point.

If you're looking for a place to eat generously with family, want to try several dishes at once with friends, or need a spacious group dinner spot in Dongtan with easy parking, Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Dongtan Branch is worth looking into.

And if it's a weekday lunch gathering, keep the 16,900-won price and the 3pm cutoff in mind.
