In short
Banwolga is a bar and izakaya on Gwangdeok3-ro in Gojan-dong, Ansan, Gyeonggi. A couple who barely drink went for the snow cheese croquette and uni pasta, enjoying the crispy batter and thick sea urchin cream sauce. Even without alcohol, the food alone is good enough to make you a regular.

My husband and I are both pretty weak drinkers, but even so, whenever we crave late-night food, the place we go to without hesitation is Banwolga in Gojan-dong, Ansan.
It's mainly a moody izakaya and bar, but the quality of the food is so much better than most dedicated Japanese or Western restaurants that we're amazed every single time we visit and eat!!

The perfect season for yajang (outdoor drinking)
The weather's been working overtime lately — perfect for yajang, outdoor seating! Humidity's just right too!! Autumn goes by so fast, so enjoy yajang season at this Ansan Gojan-dong bar Banwolga before the cold sets in!

They were kind enough to write out the exact date and time the mungtigi came in.

The dachi bar counter and duck mood lights — what's the vibe like?
This Ansan Gojan-dong bar, Banwolga, still has that same cozy yet lively atmosphere. Walk in and you'll find a wooden dachi (bar counter) with whiskey and traditional liquor bottles tastefully displayed.
Banwolga's mascot? Duck mood lights and all sorts of cute little props fill the space, making it the perfect spot for couples — or a married couple like us — to chat quietly on a night date! It's an open kitchen setup too, so you can watch the food being cooked, which only boosts your trust in the cleanliness and quality of the food!
The 'Nangmandan' regulars club and photo review event
Visiting again after a while, I noticed some fun new events they'd added. First is a regulars community called Nangmandan (낭만단), set up to interact with frequent visitors like friends — join their open chat room and get a free first draft beer or highball on your visit. There were all sorts of cute little perks stocked up, like different events each month and sitting with the adorable duck mood light (?). Honestly, if I were a bit younger I'd join right now — it's a lively, fun idea.
They're also running a no-lose photo review event, where writing a receipt review lets you draw a ticket for prizes ranging from nostalgic snacks and survival kits to traditional liquor and even a meal voucher worth up to ₩50,000. If you visit Banwolga, definitely take part.
They even thoughtfully bring out hangover-relief vitamins before the main dishes arrive.

The menu lineup
True to its status as a hotspot in Gojan-dong, Ansan, it's a bar, but one known for its food — the menu was really varied. From signature dishes like fresh Korean beef mungtigi and grilled cuttlefish, available weekdays only, to the hearty Banwolga full-course set with Korean beef sashimi, yukhoe (beef tartare), and gamtae (seaweed) gimbap — the lineup was seriously packed.

What about drinks?
The drinks are just as solid — Budweiser draft, cleanly poured thanks to daily line cleaning and temperature checks, plus a range of highballs, non-alcoholic/zero highballs, and Balvenie highballs, so you can pair one with your food and mood.

The snacks that keep pulling your hand back in... sweet and salty, I wish I could just eat a whole bag😛 We always order a highball at Banwolga without fail, but this time we swapped for aesabi instead. It's a food spot AND a highball spot, I'm telling you!!

The snow cheese croquette
On top of the crispy fried croquette sits teriyaki-mayo sauce, paprika seasoning, parsley, and — true to its name — a snow-like mound of cheese piled high. It comes with a fresh side salad too, so there's no getting tired of it.
Pick it up with chopsticks and take a bite: first the crunch of the batter, then the moist, soft mashed potato filling melts right in your mouth. The sweet-and-salty sauce blends with the snowy cheese flavor for a taste that hooks you instantly.

The uni pasta
The uni pasta comes out heaped in a pan, and the thickness of the sauce alone sets it apart. On a rich, creamy white sauce base sits a generous mound of premium sea urchin roe (uni), dusted with pepper and sesame seeds for extra depth.
Mix the uni into the sauce, twirl it with the noodles, and take a bite — behind the smooth creaminess comes the savory, briny umami unique to sea urchin roe, spreading through your mouth. There's zero heaviness, which is the magic that keeps you spooning up more sauce... You start to wonder if this is an izakaya or a dedicated pasta restaurant — the taste was that good.

One-line verdict
With food this carefully made and an atmosphere this perfect — barely feels like a bar — even a couple who can't drink can't help but become regulars: Banwolga, the best place for food in Gojan-dong, Ansan.
