I genuinely don't go to hair salons often, so once I start growing my hair out it just keeps going forever haha. This time I'd neglected it for so long that it got absurdly long...

After keeping long hair for ages, I was starting to get a little bored of it and wanted to trim the length while completely changing up the vibe. So this time I finally committed to trying a hippie perm!

I visited Beorn Hair Cheongdam near Gangnam-gu Office Station, booked for Monday 4pm with designer Hannah.

Spoiler alert — I asked for quite a lot of specific things haha, but she caught every single one, so the result was completely satisfying. If you're someone who wants a long-hair hippie perm with real attention to root volume, this review is for you.

Beorn Hair Cheongdam location and how to book

📍 2F Cheongyul Building, 710 Seolleung-ro, Gangnam-gu, Seoul / 🚇 Near Gangnam-gu Office Station Exit 3-1 or Exit 4. It's close enough to the station that getting there by public transit was easy.

I went by reservation, and for time-heavy menus like a perm, it's a good idea to book ahead if you want a specific designer and time slot. Haha.

Inside Beorn Hair Cheongdam: roomier than expected

My first thought walking in was, "Oh? This place is bigger than I expected." When a salon is too cramped, sitting close to the next customer for two or three hours gets kind of uncomfortable.

Beorn Hair Cheongdam has a genuinely spacious layout with decent gaps between seats, so I wasn't uncomfortable at all during my perm.

On the day I visited, I saw everyone from small kids to elderly customers — the age range was really diverse. It didn't feel like a place catering to just one demographic; it seemed like families come here a lot too.

A personal fan at every chair

After being seated, they brought over a light snack and drink. But that day it suddenly got warm and I was clearly a bit hot. They noticed right away and brought me a personal fan haha.

It might seem like a small thing, but a perm means sitting for two to three hours minimum, so these little details matter more than you'd think. Being noticed and taken care of before I even asked made the whole thing comfortable from the start.

Long straight hair for too long, so this time a hippie perm

As you can see from my BEFORE, it's genuinely long haha. I'd kept long hair for a really long time and don't visit salons often, so I'd basically left it alone for ages.

As a result, the length had gotten as long as it possibly could, and the hair condition also needed attention. So this time I decided to trim the length a bit and add a clear statement point with a hippie perm.

That said, I didn't just show her reference photos and demand the exact same look — I had a thorough consultation with designer Hannah first.

Hair condition check before the perm

During the consultation we also checked my current hair condition. She told me that on a scale of roughly 1 to 12, my hair would be rated around 7.

Rather than jumping straight into the hippie perm I wanted, we decided to add keratin and moisture care steps in the middle, factoring in my hair's current state. The keratin step happened during the shampoo after the cut, and after the perm and neutralizing were done, there was an additional moisture care step.

This part depends on individual hair condition, so if you're planning a perm on long hair like I did, I'd recommend checking your own hair condition during the consultation first!!

Hippie perm steps and how long it takes

The order that day was roughly: hair cut → shampoo and keratin care → perm rods → 1st heat processing → 2nd heat processing → neutralizing → wash and moisture care. Total time was about 2 hours 30 minutes.

Since it's a hippie perm, a lot of rods go in and the process runs fairly long, but I could tell she was paying close, careful attention from the very first cut all the way to the end. The assistant staff who helped along the way were kind too, so even sitting for a long time, nothing felt particularly uncomfortable.

What was that during the final shampoo?

One thing that personally stuck with me was the final wash step. After neutralizing, during the shampoo, they used a cooling product on my scalp — and wow, it was seriously cool haha. To me it felt like a summer cooling shampoo times 100. My whole head felt instantly refreshed, and after such a long perm process, it felt amazing.

Then during the moisture care, they lightly loosened up my scalp and neck area too... and I nearly zoned out haha. All the fatigue from sitting for two and a half hours just melted away. This is entirely my own personal impression from receiving it!

Side bangs, curl and root volume: a long list of requests

And now the most important part — the result. I was completely satisfied. Honestly, before we even started, I'd asked designer Hannah for quite a lot of things haha.

I wanted the area around my face to look a bit more natural, so I asked for side bangs. My curls usually don't come out as strong as I'd like even when I get a perm, so I asked for more definite curl this time. On top of that — please make sure the roots have volume and don't lie flat! Even I was thinking, "wow, I'm being demanding today..."

But looking at the finished result, everything I'd mentioned during that first consultation was reflected really well overall.

Side bangs to roots, all as hoped

What I liked most was the front side bangs. When you keep long hair for a long time, even your fringe grows out and everything ends up looking a bit droopy overall. But adding the side bangs up front created a focal point and totally changed the vibe.

And the thing I was most worried about was "what if the curl doesn't come out properly again?" haha — but this time the distinctive curl of the hippie perm I wanted showed up clearly, which I loved. The roots also kept their volume without lying flat, which matched exactly the look I was going for.

Rather than just making the curl as strong as possible, the fact that we discussed my hair condition and usual styling habits to figure out the direction really contributed to how satisfied I ended up.

From hair that had just been left to grow long forever, trimming the length, adding side bangs, and putting curl through it all completely transformed the vibe.

But the most important thing is the result, and what satisfied me most was that not a single point I wanted got missed — side bangs, hippie perm curl, root volume, all of it. I was pretty particular during that first consultation, but seeing the finished look, I'm glad I was that specific haha.
