Gangnam hair salon summer cool-tone dye fix for patchy color: Anew

My personal color is summer cool light, so picking dye colors has always been kind of tricky for me. Colors with a yellow or red undertone don't suit me nearly as well as slightly cooler ones. On top of that, my old dye job had faded unevenly, leaving the lower half of my hair looking patchy.

Personal color consultation in the consultation room

This was my favorite part of this visit to Anew Hair Cheongdam Main Branch. Instead of starting the dye job right away, I was moved to a separate consultation room and filled out a questionnaire first.

It wasn't just a simple "what color do you want?" — they checked my current hair and scalp condition too, and it felt like the treatment direction was being planned around that, which I really liked.

Amethyst or sapphire — 30 minutes to decide

The colors I was torn between were amethyst and sapphire. Stylist Soyoon and I spent almost 30 minutes together figuring out which one would suit me better. In the end I went with sapphire level 5!

My old, patchily faded dye color was still hanging on in long stretches at the ends of my hair. So the goal this time was to lower the overall brightness while making sure the top-to-bottom tone gap wouldn't be as noticeable once the color faded again.

My personal color sits somewhere between summer cool light and bright, so if I just went dark without thinking, my face could end up looking dull. Soyoon suggested we tone things down while still finding a color that actually suited my skin tone, instead of going too bright or too bold.

There was a pretty noticeable difference between the top and bottom sections, and the brown tones got stronger toward the ends, giving it an overall patchy look. It was even more obvious in photos than when I looked in the mirror at home.

The sapphire level 5 dye process

After the consultation wrapped up and the color was decided, they brought out an americano and cookies for me to enjoy while I waited. Those cookies were seriously so good!!!!

And then the dye job began for real! Stylist Soyoon mixed the color herself and applied it thoroughly all over my hair. I always get a little anxious about dye getting on the skin near my ears, but she was really clean and careful about it.

The dye was left to process for about 40 minutes before shampooing. They gave me a scalp massage during the shampoo too, and wow… the pressure was way stronger than I expected haha. My stylist was a woman but had surprisingly strong hands — my whole scalp down to my neck felt refreshed and loosened up.

This photo was taken right after I came out from washing my hair — isn't the color so pretty?! It kept the dark brightness I wanted while looking so much calmer overall.

What surprised me most was that just changing my hair color made my skin tone look so much clearer. Before, the faded section at the bottom really stood out on its own, but once the overall tone was evened out, everything looked much calmer and cleaner.

What I loved about this dye session was that they recommended sapphire level 5 with my skin tone, current hair condition, and even how the color would look once it faded, all factored in.
