How my home-neighborhood salon botched my cut

Right after my wedding photoshoot, my long hair suddenly started bugging me 🤔 It wasn't short, but it looked messy, and since I'd need to grow it out again before the actual wedding, I figured it'd be good to tidy it up once 🙌 But does anyone else relate to this — when you want to cut your hair or get your ears pierced, you just have to do it that exact day or you won't feel right...❤️ I went to the salon near my place after work, without a reservation, and they said they could still take me, so I thought great, and got it cut.

Honestly, at the time I assumed they'd done a good job, but a few days later I noticed — wait, the two sides weren't even the same length 🤨 And it wasn't the layered look I wanted at all, ugh (I guess I couldn't tell at the time because it was styled with a blow-dry...)

It was noticeable enough that an acquaintance asked if I'd cut it myself. I only spotted it a few days after getting it done at the salon near my house, so I started looking for another salon, and decided to get help from deputy director Yeonwoo at Mad Hair haha.

Mad Hair's location, parking, and hours

Mad Hair is on the 2nd floor of 47 Songpa-daero 49-gil, Songpa-gu, Seoul, and free parking is available in front of the building. Hours are Monday through Friday 10:00–20:00, and Saturday–Sunday 10:00–19:00.

Mad Hair is about a 10-minute walk from Seokchon-gobun Station, and it's a hair salon with an amazing view — Lotte Tower is right there in front of it haha.

I'd booked with deputy director Yeonwoo and arrived a bit earlier than my appointment time, wondering what to do, but luckily they seated me right away haha.

Honestly, the waiting area was really well set up, with books too, so time didn't drag while I waited at Mad Hair 💕 There were even toys and Tinyping books for kids — you could really see the thoughtful touches at Mad Hair.

Once I sat down, I explained the uneven sides and the soft, flowy layered look I wanted, and Yeonwoo and I talked it through while looking at photos of layered cuts together 🥹 When I mentioned that my job means I have to tie my hair back a lot, she said that if the layers were cut too dramatically, everything would slip loose when tied up, so she'd keep it moderate instead ><

Shampoo, scalp massage, and the finished layered cut

I'd already washed my hair at home, so I technically didn't need a shampoo, but when I mentioned I had plans right after, Yeonwoo washed my hair again anyway!! Plus the scalp massage felt so good I nearly fell asleep during the shampoo 🥹 In the end, I got exactly the soft, flowy layered cut I wanted 🙌

She also explained how to style it well, and best of all, she trimmed it so it's easy to tie back for everyday work and easy to blow-dry for days I have plans haha. This is with waves added — I got the S-curl I love, which made me really happy ><

I also really loved how naturally a few strands slip out when I tie it up haha. I used to just wear it in a low bun-like style before, but now I can pull off a more natural hair look ><

Next up: a premium head spa

She mentioned I had a bit of scalp buildup, probably from stress or dryness, so next time I'd like to try a premium head spa at Mad Hair too haha. Going forward, I'm planning to just let my hair grow out like this until the actual wedding! I guess I'm destined to only ever get layered cuts for life 🥹 If you live around Seokchon/Songpa and haven't found your go-to spot for a layered cut, I'd recommend deputy director Yeonwoo at Mad Hair 💕
