Danyang market bakery: two salt bread sets shared riverside with kids
In short
Black Garlic Salt Bread is a garlic salt bread bakery near the entrance of Guyeong Market in Danyang, Chungbuk. Traveling as a family of three, the writer bought Set 1 (4 original, 11,000 won) to keep as a gift and Set 2 (2 original, 1 garlic, 1 black garlic, 13,000 won) to share with her husband and child on a riverside bench in front of the market. Because the garlic is cooked rather than raw, none of it tasted spicy, so Black Garlic Salt Bread works both as a travel snack for kids and as a gift.

I'm Cat Cheesemom. This weekend I went on a trip to Danyang, Chungbuk! Here's my review of Black Garlic Salt Bread, a dessert spot at Danyang Market that I visited during a family trip.

Danyang Guyeong Market (구경시장) is a must-visit hotspot on any Danyang trip! It's famous for all the different foods sold there.

In particular, there's a lot of food made with garlic, Danyang's local specialty, and on this trip we had delicious salt bread at a place called Black Garlic Salt Bread. They also sell regular salt bread, plus other garlic-based breads, so it makes a great travel snack and a good gift for people back home too.

Which sets a family of three picked: Set 2 to eat, Set 1 as a gift
There are three of us in my family, and we bought both Set 1 and Set 2 from Black Garlic Salt Bread. We ate Set 2, which has a variety of flavors, ourselves, and bought Set 1 — just the originals, which seemed like a safe choice — as a gift.

Black Garlic Salt Bread is only open until 8pm, every day except Tuesday and Wednesday. We parked in the lot for people visiting Danyang Guyeong Market — since the market is always so crowded, parking wasn't exactly spacious, but luckily we found a spot. Parking at Danyang Guyeong Market is free!

How much do the Black Garlic Salt Bread sets cost?
Black Garlic Salt Bread isn't far from the market entrance! You can buy pieces individually, but since sets come with a discount, we went with sets.
- Set 1 — 4 original: ₩11,000
- Set 2 — 2 original, 1 garlic, 1 black garlic: ₩13,000
- Set 3 — 1 original, 1 soboro (crumb-topped bun), 1 garlic, 1 black garlic: ₩14,000
- Set 4 — 2 garlic, 2 black garlic: ₩14,800
You can buy individual pieces too, so it's worth checking the price board on the menu :) After we bought Set 1 and 2, they attached a handle to the mouth of the Black Garlic Salt Bread paper bag, making it easy to gift and easy to carry. Major kudos to the owner for that touch!

There were so many customers that it took a while to order, but watching new batches come out of the oven the moment the shelves emptied made it clear this really is a famous bakery at Danyang Guyeong Market.

House-aged black garlic, baked and sold the same day
The dough at Black Garlic Salt Bread apparently uses black garlic they age in-house, and the shop runs on a policy of making and selling everything the same day, which felt trustworthy. The original salt bread is also kneaded and baked fresh daily. They don't use preservatives or coloring either, which caught my eye even more as a family traveling with a kid.

Free Sanghamokjang ice cream with a photo review
Salt bread is great, but at Danyang Market they were also selling Sanghamokjang ice cream — made with organic milk, which seemed like a nice treat to enjoy with a kid.
There's also an event running where buying a salt bread set gets you a free Sanghamokjang ice cream, so if you have time to spare, writing a photo review to get the ice cream seems worth it.
Since garlic is what the area is famous for, I ended up trying garlic-shaped desserts, garlic dishes, and garlic bread on this trip — it was really fun seeing just how many different desserts are made from garlic here.
Sharing the salt bread on a riverside bench in front of the market
When you're traveling, there's always something you want to bring back as a gift for someone, and this time the salt bread from Guyeong Market was exactly that. It seemed like a nice light gift for parents or family too!
After buying dessert at Guyeong Market, we sat on a bench by the river in front of the market and shared it with my husband and kid — eating all the different breads while unwinding from the trip felt like a genuinely happy moment.

Even though it's garlic, it's cooked so it isn't spicy at all, so both kid and adults ate it happily!! Thanks to all the different garlic-based food, our Danyang trip felt richer, and it's a place I'd love to visit again.

Great views, great air, and plenty of good food made for a happy trip to Danyang. That was my review of Black Garlic Salt Bread, the bakery to know at Danyang Guyeong Market.
