Danyang café where dogs can come inside on rainy days: JB Coffee

On the last day of my Danyang trip, I checked out of my accommodation and found I had more time than expected. Heading straight home felt like a waste, so I decided to stop by a café first.

A Danyang café you can bring your dog to

I wanted somewhere more distinctive than your average café — something only Danyang could offer — and above all, somewhere London and I could go inside together. These days, even places that say they're dog-friendly often turn out to only allow outdoor seating once you get there, so we usually call ahead just in case.

Apparently this place has been featured on TV several times, and once I heard it had a unique new menu item as a Danyang bingsu (shaved ice) spot, I got even more curious and decided to go.

Can dogs go inside JB Coffee?

The owner greeted us warmly as soon as we arrived. She has a cute brown poodle of her own, so London got to say a quick hello haha. After the greeting, the dog went right back inside.

When I visited, I just carried London in without any separate cage or carrier bag. When you're traveling with a dog, an indoor space where you can stay together no matter the weather is such a relief — especially on a rainy day like this one!

JB Coffee menu and parking

JB Coffee sits a little uphill from the Danyang market, so the surroundings felt quieter than I expected. You can use the nearby street parking, or there's a public parking lot near the market a short distance away.

True to its reputation as a Danyang bingsu spot, they had an elaborate bingsu menu along with a wide range of drinks.

Inside JB Coffee: bigger than it looks

JB Coffee felt much more spacious once we stepped inside than it looked from outside. There's seating further back on the first floor, and stepping through a door outside leads to yet another seating area, so there were more corners to explore than I expected.

And in one corner, there was an enormous number of figurines. As you can see in the photos, this wasn't just a few decorative pieces here and there.

What is Maneul-injul-arattdanyang, the new garlic-shaped dessert?

JB Coffee has signature items like sambong bingsu and garlic bingsu, but this time the owner recommended the new item, Maneul-injul-arattdanyang, so I picked it without hesitation.

It comes in strawberry, banana, and melon flavors, and we ordered strawberry and banana. It's shaped round like a whole garlic bulb, complete with the vertical ridges that real garlic has, so the visual alone was on point.

At first I only noticed the garlic shape on top, but looking closer, the bottom was even cuter — underneath the big garlic bulb were little garlic-clove-shaped chocolates.

I assumed it would be a standard affogato with espresso poured over ice cream, but the texture was different from what I expected — more crunchy and cool, like a sorbet.

The espresso comes separately alongside Maneul-injul-arattdanyang, so you pour it in yourself to taste. As I poured the espresso in, it trickled down through the garlic shape and changed the look entirely.

The refreshing, sweet-tart flavor combined with the espresso's bitterness made for a surprisingly good pairing.

It was fun poking the big "garlic" with a fork, then using the little shovel-shaped spoon that came with it to crack it open and scoop it up.

And those garlic-clove-shaped chocolates hidden at the bottom? Seriously delicious.

The figurine-filled second floor and its Danyang views

After finishing dessert, I went up to check out the second floor, which I'd been curious about.

A whole array of character figurines filled the display cases, making it feel like a small exhibition space. Figurine fans would probably enjoy looking at each one — though since it's a precious collection, look-but-don't-touch :)

From the open second-floor space, you can see the Danyang scenery too, which made for a nice, unhurried break on the last day of the trip instead of rushing around. I'd come looking for a simple Danyang bingsu spot, but once I got there, there was so much more to see — a space to stay with my dog, a one-of-a-kind dessert, figurines to browse, and the relaxed atmosphere upstairs.

There are plenty of good desserts out there, but running into a menu item you've never seen before while traveling somehow stays with you longer. And the coffee was so good that I grabbed an iced americano to go on the way out — I sipped on it the whole drive home, it was that good. It's been a while since I found a café that really knows how to do coffee.
