Changwon Chinese restaurant seafood jjamppong: Hwaryong Restaurant

I went to Hwaryong Restaurant, a Sangnam-dong lunch spot in Changwon, and had tangsuyuk, jjamppong and ganjjajang. It was so good and the portions were huge, so it was a total win on both taste and value. Here's my honest review of Hwaryong Restaurant, a real Chinese restaurant favorite in Changwon~!

Hwaryong Restaurant Changwon-Sangnam branch: hours and how to find it

Hwaryong Restaurant Changwon-Sangnam branch is on the 2nd floor of the Cheongchun Kitchen building in Sangnam-dong, Changwon. Hours are 11 AM to 9 PM, closed on Mondays — keep that in mind.

They had Hwaryong Restaurant's menu items posted big on the wall. Each signature dish — tangsuyuk, stir-fried jjamppong, ganjjajang, jjamppong — was displayed nicely, which made it easy for us to decide what to order.

Inside Hwaryong Restaurant: a wide dining room with high ceilings

The inside of Hwaryong Restaurant was spacious! There were plenty of tables that could seat four. The ceilings were high, as you can see in the photos, so it never felt cramped.

Ganjjajang, tangsuyuk and seafood jjamppong for three: enormous portions

Our ganjjajang, tangsuyuk, and seafood jjamppong all arrived!! The portions were seriously huge. The bowls were genuinely big and deep, so the amount of food was massive. Once all three dishes were out, I kind of regretted ordering so much haha.

Juicy tangsuyuk, 17,000 won

The tangsuyuk comes with the sauce served separately, topped with shredded purple cabbage, onion and carrot. The pork wasn't tough at all — it was tender, and just from the color of the frying you could tell it was freshly fried in clean oil. The sauce, the batter, and the quality of the meat all worked well together.

I'm team pour-it-all-over, so I poured the whole tangsuyuk sauce on. The sauce color was really deep! Once poured, it looked even more appetizing haha. There were lemon slices in it too. The sauce was tangy and sweet, and it paired really well with the fried pork!!

Seafood jjamppong, 11,500 won

Comparing it to the tangsuyuk and sauce bowls, you can tell just how big the jjamppong bowl is, right? It really was wide and deep, and it came out completely full — the portion size was shocking!

True to its name, the seafood jjamppong was loaded with seafood — crab, mussels, squid and more — plus plenty of napa cabbage and bok choy that added to the refreshing broth flavor!

Ganjjajang, 9,500 won

The jjajang noodles were also generously topped with big, crisp-looking onion pieces. Personally I love a lot of crunchy onion in my jjajangmyeon, so Hwaryong Restaurant's version was even more delicious to me haha.

The sweet flavor and that distinctive savory jjajang taste blended perfectly with the noodles — a really satisfying meal. If you want really good ganjjajang in Changwon, or tangsuyuk, or jjamppong packed with seafood, Hwaryong Restaurant in Sangnam-dong, Changwon covers it all in one visit!

Now that cool fall weather has arrived, they had the big windows fully open even at lunchtime. The breeze blew in gently, and it made the tangsuyuk, jjajangmyeon and jjamppong taste even better.
