Wood-fired flounder and jeyuk sets in Jowon-dong, Suwon: Hwadeogeuro

In short

Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Suwon KT Wiz Park Branch is a wood-fired grilled fish Korean restaurant on the second floor of a building on Suil-ro in Jowon-dong, Jangan-gu, Suwon. On a weekday evening the writer ordered the wood-fired flounder set and the wood-fired jeyuk (spicy stir-fried pork) set, eating fish grilled in a 500-degree oven alongside a self-serve bar stocked with tteokbokki, jeon (savory pancakes), japchae, fried snacks and bibimbap. The self-serve bar was the highlight, and Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo is a Jowon-dong spot worth returning to whenever a craving for grilled fish hits.

This is a Suwon Korean restaurant and Jowon-dong favorite, Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Suwon KT Wiz Park Branch. It's located at 229 Suil-ro, 2nd floor, Jangan-gu, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, open 11:00–21:00 with last order at 20:20, and parking is available.

Entrance of Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo in Jowon-dong

Hi, this is Yeonhee : ) Today I want to introduce a Jowon-dong restaurant I love — Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Suwon KT Wiz Park Branch.

Exterior of Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo on the building's 2nd floor

The Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo brand itself is somewhere I go whenever I crave grilled fish, so this was my nth visit overall, but my first time at the KT Wiz Park branch. It's a great spot to stop by after watching baseball, located on the 2nd floor of the building, and the moment I arrived, the clean exterior caught my eye.

No matter how good the food is, inconvenient parking makes you hesitate to return — but this Jowon-dong restaurant has a dedicated lot behind the building, so I could visit comfortably.

Inside the restaurant and what the self-serve bar holds

Spacious interior with full glass windows

Walking inside, the space was much wider and cleaner than I expected. The full glass windows make it look bright and pleasant even for a daytime visit.

The tables weren't crowded together either, so I could eat comfortably with my companions without worrying about neighbors — a good atmosphere for family meals or group gatherings, making it a Suwon Korean restaurant worth visiting with parents or kids.

Self-serve bar set up in one corner of the restaurant

One reason I love Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Suwon KT Wiz Park Branch is the self-serve bar. Most grilled fish restaurants only offer a few side dishes, but this place is genuinely different!!

Korean side dishes on the self-serve bar

Japchae and fried food on the self-serve bar
Soup and drinks prepared on the self-serve bar

The self-serve bar is stocked with such a variety of side dishes it rivals a Korean buffet — tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), jeon (savory pancakes), japchae (glass noodles), fried food, soup, and drinks, making it a Jowon-dong restaurant that's great to bring kids to.

From fresh vegetables and a bibimbap (mixed rice bowl) corner to a variety of Korean side dishes, it's not just about quantity — many dishes taste better than a full main menu item at an average restaurant, which is why I'm satisfied every time I visit this Suwon Korean restaurant (especially recommend the tofu ssamjang, or dipping paste).

What we ordered and how tablet ordering works

Menu board listing the set meals

Here's the menu at Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo KT Wiz Park Branch. We ordered:

  • 💜Wood-fired flounder set
  • 💜Wood-fired jeyuk (spicy pork) set

That's what we picked!

Ordering machine placed on the table

Each table has its own ordering machine, so you can order conveniently without calling staff over.

Table set with seaweed soup and side dishes

Once you order, they bring out seaweed soup and side dishes by default. Every time I receive this full spread, I feel treated like a guest of honor haha.

How does the wood-fired flounder set taste?

Wood-fired flounder set table spread

While we were eating the side dishes, the main dishes arrived. We ordered the flounder that day, and this Jowon-dong restaurant's flounder, grilled in a 500-degree wood-fired oven, looked exceptional from the very first glance.

Golden crisped skin of the grilled flounder

The golden-browned skin was so crisp it crackled the moment my chopsticks touched it, and the flesh underneath was unbelievably moist.

Thick flounder flesh picked apart

This grilled flounder was on a completely different level from any I've had before — the flesh was so thick it was satisfying to pick apart, with a subtle smoky flavor (wood-fired fish really is on another level).

Grilled flounder with brown rice

At Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Suwon KT Wiz Park Branch you can choose white rice or brown rice, and the brown rice I ordered paired really well with the flounder.

Flounder flesh dipped in wasabi soy sauce

It's seasoned just enough to taste good plain, but dipping it lightly in wasabi soy sauce makes the umami explode even more..!!

Full spread of the wood-fired jeyuk set

How does the wood-fired jeyuk (spicy stir-fried pork) set taste?

And whenever we come to Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo, we always order this wood-fired jeyuk (spicy stir-fried pork) set. The seasoning here really suits my taste..

Spicy-sweet seasoned jeyuk-bokkeum

The jeyuk-bokkeum isn't overly harsh but has a spicy-sweet sauce that clings to your mouth and is total rice-thief material — no gamey pork smell at all, and the texture isn't chewy, so pairing it with the grilled fish makes for a truly hearty meal.

Wrapping it with fresh lettuce and tofu ssamjang from the self-serve bar is a can't-fail combo! This Jowon-dong restaurant has so many menu options that anyone can enjoy it, no matter who you bring along.

Final verdict on Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Suwon KT Wiz Park Branch

Cup of plum tea after the meal

For my review of "Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Suwon KT Wiz Park Branch," a Suwon Korean restaurant and Jowon-dong favorite — after eating until full, finishing off with a clean cup of plum tea made for a truly perfect weekday evening. Between the food, the generous self-serve bar, and the pleasant environment, everything was satisfying, so whenever I crave grilled fish, I'm definitely coming back to Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo 🤍
