Gyeongju dessert shop with color-coded fruit mochi wrappers: Tareudang

In short

Tareudang is a takeout dessert shop on Hwangnidang-gil in Gyeongju specializing in giant fruit mochi. Buying the gold kiwi, mango, and peach and opening them up, only the gold kiwi held red bean paste, while the mango and peach were filled with yogurt cream and fruit alone. Each mochi wraps a whole piece of fruit, so Tareudang's mochi tastes fresh rather than sweet and travels well as a Gyeongju souvenir.

I was so curious about Tareudang, a fruit mochi spot everyone raves about for a Gyeongju trip, that I had to visit. There's no one who dislikes fruit, right? These fruit mochi will satisfy anyone!!!

Tareudang hours, parking and how long is the wait?

Tareudang is at 49 Sajeong-ro, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongbuk-do, on Hwangnidang-gil, and is open daily from 11:00 to 19:00. It may close early if ingredients run out, and parking is available at the paid public lot on Hwangnidang-gil.

There was a wait when I went. The staff took orders and packed them so fast that I didn't have to wait long at all. Their hands were so quick!!!

When I visited, they had dried persimmon yogurt, raw chocolate, peach yogurt, mango yogurt, fig yogurt, pineapple, and gold kiwi. It seemed like the fruit in the mochi changes a bit by season!!! They also give a ₩500 discount per piece when you buy 4 or more, which is a nice perk.

Tareudang's fruit mochi packaging

The packaging is really neat! It would make a great gift too!!! The wrapping colors were all different too!

Among the giant fruit mochi, the persimmon, mango, fig, and peach ones are low-sugar, so they'd be great for anyone watching their diet!!!

Yellow wrapper gold kiwi: the only mochi with red bean paste

How the gold kiwi mochi tasted inside

The yellow wrapping was the gold kiwi. This would make a great souvenir for anyone traveling to Gyeongju!! If you handed one out to friends, they'd really love it!

Gold kiwi giant fruit mochi in yellow wrapping

True to being a giant fruit mochi, it was quite large!!! It seemed like each one is made by hand. Round and cute somehow. The moment I saw Tareudang, a beloved dessert spot on Hwangnidang-gil, I was already sold!!!

A round, plump gold kiwi mochi

Inside the sticky rice cake was fresh kiwi, along with red bean paste and soft yogurt. The outside was chewy while the inside was moist, and the refreshing burst that filled my mouth was so good. Of course it couldn't taste bad when the fruit is this fresh!!!! You can taste the fruit's true flavor as it is. The mochi wasn't too sweet, right up my alley.

Orange wrapper mango: long shape, bursting with juice

The orange wrapping was the mango fruit mochi. Perhaps because mango is elongated, this mochi wasn't round but had a long shape.

The mango was also fresh, bursting with juice. Soft, with the mango aroma filling my mouth, it was pure happiness. Anyone who loves mango would definitely love this flavor. Tareudang's fruit mochi wins over the taste buds of adults and kids alike.

Peach fruit mochi in red wrapping

Red wrapper peach, and how it compares without red bean paste

Red is the peach! The wrapping color can vary each time. The peach was also fresh and delicious!

Out of what I ate, only the gold kiwi had red bean paste inside, while the peach and mango did not. It made me want to try the other flavors next time. If you're traveling in Gyeongju and looking for a delicious dessert, be sure to stop by Tareudang and try one!! The fruit is fresh and whole inside, so the texture and flavor are both great!!!!
