While wandering around Hwangridan-gil during our Gyeongju trip, we started craving an actual proper meal, so we headed to Dongyang Baekban Gyeongju Hwangridan-gil Main Branch, a Hwangridan-gil favorite! Here's our review after eating a delicious beef tripe hot pot (한우곱창전골) in a quiet, old-school hanok 🥘 Let's get into it!

The hanok exterior and the Hwangridan-gil mood

Here's the outside of Dongyang Baekban! Doesn't it just scream Gyeongju? 🥹 The moment I saw the hanok-style exterior I was like, yep, I'm really in Gyeongju right now haha. It matched the quiet, old-town vibe of Hwangridan-gil so well that it boosted the trip feeling even before we walked in to eat 🤎

Seating in the main building and annex, plus high chairs

Dongyang Baekban is made up of a main building and an annex, so there were actually more tables than I expected! Best of all, the lush green view outside was so pretty 🌿 The tables were also spaced out generously, which makes it a great pick if you're looking for a nice-atmosphere date spot 😆

They also have a high chair on hand, so it's a good option for family meals while traveling in Gyeongju too 😁

Dongyang Baekban menu and the tripe hot pot price

True to its name, Dongyang Baekban serves a wide variety of Korean dishes! They had braised spicy chicken (닭볶음탕), jjimdak (braised chicken), hot pots, and dureuchigi (stir-fried pork and kimchi) — lots of hearty options for a full meal.

How did the hanwoo beef tripe hot pot taste?

Finally, the beef tripe hot pot arrives 🥘 It came with neatly arranged side dishes to go with it, and once it started bubbling away, the sight alone got our mouths watering! The broth was spicy and sharp, but also rich and deep in flavor.

The large intestine (대창) was chewy and savory with no unpleasant smell at all, and the meat was piled in generously. Simmering it with the mushrooms and vegetables made the broth taste even deeper the more we ate 👍 Taking a bite of tripe with vegetables and a sip of broth — this is what they call a real rice thief 😋

Why glass noodles beat ramyeon noodles in this hot pot

We went back and forth between ramyeon noodles and glass noodles as the add-on, and ended up choosing glass noodles — great choice 😁 I'm a total ramyeon addict, but honestly, glass noodles are the way to go with hot pot haha. The rich hot pot broth soaked deeply into the noodles, and slurping them up was so good! The portion was more generous than I expected too, so the two of us had plenty to eat haha. This was our first meal of the Gyeongju trip, and it was so satisfying 😆
