Family lunch at a Gijang Korean restaurant: Kkomak Hansang

In short

Kkomak Hansang Gijang Main Branch is a Korean restaurant in Gijang, Busan, that works well for a family meal while visiting Gijang and Osiria. We ordered one dried yellow corvina set meal for our 6- and 2-year-olds and one seasoned cockle set meal for ourselves, plus about 12 side dishes. Verdict: a filling first-day Busan lunch where both kids and adults could eat what they wanted.

On the first day of our Busan trip, we went for a Korean set meal with the kids—and even the adults were completely satisfied, you know?

Korean set-meal lunch on the first day of a Busan family trip

From September 2 to 4, we took a two-night, three-day family trip to Busan with our 6-year-old firstborn and 2-year-old second child. The first thing we worried about as soon as we arrived in Busan was lunch on day one. With the kids, food that was too spicy or strongly seasoned would be difficult, but it also felt a little sad to make our first travel meal something ordinary.

First-day Busan trip lunch with children

So we headed to Kkomak Hansang Gijang Main Branch (꼬막한상 기장본점). We ordered a dried yellow corvina set meal for the children and a seasoned cockle set meal for ourselves. It was such a filling, delicious meal right from the first day that we got to start our Busan trip in a great mood.

Kkomak Hansang Gijang Main Branch was a good place for a Korean meal while traveling around Gijang and Osiria. The restaurant was neat, with partitions that made it nice for a relaxed meal. Since we traveled around Busan by car, convenient parking is important to us too.

When you are carrying bags as well as looking after two children, just having a long walk from the parking lot to the restaurant drains your energy, right? This place has underground parking and was not complicated to navigate, so it made a good first impression as a convenient place for families.

Restaurant atmosphere for family visits

Most of all, while looking for a good meal in Busan's Songjeong area, I loved that we could solve both the kids' menu and the menu the parents wanted at once. With cockle bibimbap, seasoned cockles, yukjeon (pan-fried beef), dried yellow corvina, and more, there was plenty to choose from for adults and children alike. I would recommend it to families looking for Korean food around Osiria!

We ordered one serving of the dried yellow corvina set meal to share with the children, and one serving of the seasoned cockle set meal for my husband and me. In the end, I felt we had chosen this combination really well.

Just as its name suggests, the seasoned cockles were tangy with a slight kick of spice that really woke up our appetites. The springy cockles and crisp vegetables went together so well that the rice disappeared quickly.

If you are looking for a Korean set meal in Gijang and want something a little more special than an everyday home-style meal, this is a good choice. And the dried yellow corvina set meal we ordered for the kids was satisfying too.

Once we picked the meat from the dried yellow corvina and served it with rice, both our 6-year-old firstborn and our 2-year-old second child ate well. In particular, it was so easy to finish their meal by mixing rice into the seaweed soup and adding little pieces of fish on top.

If you are looking for a place to visit with children among the restaurants in Busan's Songjeong area, I think this kind of menu selection is a definite advantage.

Another thing I liked about Kkomak Hansang was the side dishes filling the table. When we visited, there were about 12 different dishes as well.

It was not simply a large number of dishes—there was fun in picking up and trying each one. When you eat out with children, having lots of side dishes is a bigger advantage than you might think. Children do not eat every side dish, but among the options they can find at least one that suits their taste.

Our firstborn ate fish and familiar side dishes, while our second child mainly ate seaweed soup and rice, so Mom and Dad could enjoy the meal comfortably too. Rather than being strongly seasoned, the side dishes had the feel of a Korean set meal, so I thought it would be fine to visit with grandparents as well.

With appetite-whetting dishes such as the seasoned cockles, plus dried yellow corvina, soup, and all kinds of side dishes in one meal, it was great for a family meal out while looking for Korean food around Osiria. I think it would also suit people looking for a Gijang Korean set-meal restaurant to take their parents to.

Family Korean lunch on the first day of a Busan trip

We thought quite a bit about where to have lunch on the first day of this Busan trip, and choosing Kkomak Hansang was satisfying. Above all, I loved that there were clearly dishes for the children. The kids ate seaweed soup and dried yellow corvina, while we ate the tangy, lightly spicy seasoned cockles, so no one had to give up what they wanted to eat.

I recommend it to family travelers looking for Korean food around Osiria, or to anyone traveling in Busan with their parents too!! Our meal on the first day of our two-night, three-day Busan trip was so filling that our family felt truly happy from the start. The bright, tangy seasoned cockles revived the adults' appetites, and we were even more satisfied because both children ate the seaweed soup and dried yellow corvina so well.

With all the different side dishes served alongside, it is a place I would recommend not only for eating out with children and family, but also for visiting with parents. If we travel around Gijang or Osiria again, I would like to try another set-meal menu next time.
