Jangwongap Kalguksu, a kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) spot near Lotte Premium Outlet Giheung in Yongin

Where is Jangwongap Kalguksu Yongin Giheung Branch, and is there parking?
Located in Gomae-dong near Lotte Premium Outlet Giheung in Yongin, Jangwongap Kalguksu is a steadily popular spot known for its shabu-style kalguksu and distinctive menu lineup! It's only 3-5 minutes by car from both Lotte Premium Outlet Giheung and IKEA Giheung — a Yongin Giheung Gomae-dong restaurant famous for its waiting line!!

For parking, Jangwongap Kalguksu has a spacious dedicated lot right in front of the restaurant, so parking is convenient. That said, at peak times you may have to line up just to park ~~ 😅

How long is the wait at 1pm on a weekday?
I arrived at Jangwongap Kalguksu Yongin Giheung Branch at 1pm, and when I walked in there were already quite a few people waiting ㅠㅠ Arrived at 1, ended up eating around 2... While waiting, they had all sorts of old-school snacks(?), misugaru (roasted grain powder drink), coffee and other refreshments set out in the waiting area to hold off the hunger. Guess it's always a wait here ~
Yongin Giheung Jangwongap Kalguksu waiting tip!! You can reserve ahead through the Catch Table app ~!

Seems like lunchtime waits are pretty common here haha

Went outside to endlessly wait by the convenience store next door. I almost got hangry, but a misugaru held off the hunger haha. After about 40 minutes of waiting, we were finally seated ~!

Inside Jangwongap Kalguksu: the dining room and self-serve bar
Stepping inside, I was struck by the high ceilings and open, clean interior. And every table was packed with diners,, wow, a real hotspot near Lotte Premium Outlet Yongin Giheung! The tables were spaced generously, making it a comfortable spot for families or date-night visits. On one side there's a neat self-serve bar where you can freely grab extra side dishes or broth without hesitation.
What we ordered: whole-shrimp seafood pancake and spicy chadol brisket minari kalguksu
Seafood pancake with whole shrimp / spicy chadol brisket minari kalguksu

The chadol brisket shabu kalguksu lets you pick either a spicy or mild broth, and comes loaded with mushrooms and minari (water dropwort), simmered with beef shabu and fresh-cut noodles.

First out was the seafood pancake with whole shrimp, and it was truly loaded with shrimp! Thin batter, packed with scallions and various seafood ~ crispy outside, moist inside — a work of art. It pairs really well with the kalguksu, so I'd recommend ordering it together!

Once the food is set, the pot arrives piled high with mushrooms and minari! Once the broth boils, you briefly blanch the tender chadol brisket that comes with it, then dip it in the special sauce with veggies, or eat it with the fragrant minari and chewy mushrooms haha

A good kalguksu place needs good geotjeori (fresh-mixed kimchi), right? Jangwongap Kalguksu, near Lotte Premium Outlet in Yongin's Gomae-dong Giheung area, uses domestic Uiseong garlic kimchi!

House-made kalguksu noodles and two added live abalone
After picking through the meat and vegetables for a while, it's time for the real highlight of Jangwongap Kalguksu — the house-made noodles, simmered for about 5 minutes. Because the dough is mixed and the noodles cut fresh in-house, they don't get soggy and stay springy and chewy — the best texture. Slurping them up soaked in the rich broth is the absolute best!!
We added two live abalone! Just ₩3,000 each! Fresh abalone for only ₩3,000 a piece — definitely add some for a nutritional boost haha

They also recommend dipping the house-made noodles in the salt-perilla oil sauce served alongside — the perilla oil aroma was so nutty and delicious.

Finishing the meal with self-serve fried rice
After enjoying both the shabu and the kalguksu, of course you finish with fried rice! With the little remaining broth, you self-fry it with savory eggs, vegetables, and rice — and scraping up the crispy bits stuck to the bottom made for the perfect finishing course.
