Hi, it's Kkulmam!
Weirdly, ever since the morning I couldn't stop thinking about a spicy, hot broth. Not just spicy for the sake of it — I wanted a jjamppong loaded with seafood, the kind that clears your stomach out and leaves you feeling refreshed, haha.

Looking for jjamppong in Dongtan: a visit to Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Namgwangjang Branch
So the place I ended up going to was Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch. It's a cockle jjamppong specialty Chinese restaurant on Nojak-ro at Dongtan Namgwangjang, and since I love cockles, just seeing "cockle jjamppong" in the name already had me excited.

What is the restaurant like inside?
The interior at Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch was neatly organized overall, and the tables weren't cramped, so it was comfortable to eat there. Rather than the usual chaotic feel of a Chinese restaurant, it had a clean, relaxed vibe. It felt like an easy place to swing by for a bowl of jjamppong at lunch or dinner, and I thought it would be fine to come solo too.

The order: cockle jjamppong plus tangsuyuk
Sitting down and looking at the menu, there was really nothing to think over — I ordered the cockle jjamppong. And since it felt like a waste to eat just jjamppong, I also ordered tangsuyuk. I did wonder if ordering tangsuyuk on top of jjamppong would be too much food, but in the end this combo turned out to be a really good call.

How many cockles are in the jjamppong?
When the jjamppong arrived, the first thing that caught my eye was, of course, the cockles. Wow, they were really packed in there. It wasn't just a few hiding under the broth — cockles came up every time I lifted the noodles, and they were visible all over the bowl, so just looking at it felt like a proper seafood meal.

How does the broth taste?
I took a spoonful of the broth first — the first taste was spicy, and as it went down, a clean, refreshing flavor from the seafood rose up. It wasn't a heavy, muddy kind of spicy; the heat lingered in my mouth while the broth itself stayed clean. Eating it together with the cockles made the broth taste even richer.
At first I thought it was just spicy, but as I kept eating, my stomach warmed up and I didn't want to put the spoon down. I thought this would make a great Dongtan hangover-cure dish. If it's the morning after drinking, or a day when your stomach feels heavy and you're craving something hot, this kind of spicy cockle jjamppong is exactly what comes to mind.
Jjamppong tastes best when you eat the broth and the toppings together, not just the noodles — and since Bultina piles the cockles in so generously, there was real fun in picking cockles out between bites of noodle. Best of all, the more I ate, the more I wanted the broth.
The chewy texture of the cockles paired with the spicy jjamppong broth kept my hand moving — a bite, then a spoonful of broth, then a cockle, then a bite of noodles, over and over. The noodles held plenty of broth too, so every slurp brought that spicy broth right along with it.

Is the tangsuyuk worth adding?
And then the tangsuyuk we ordered together. Biting into the crispy-fried batter with meat inside, the outside was crunchy and the inside was moist, making it a great pairing to alternate with the jjamppong. Since the jjamppong broth was so spicy, the savory-sweet taste of the tangsuyuk coming in between bites gave my appetite a second wind.

Eat one piece of tangsuyuk, drink some jjamppong broth — ah, I want more. Take a bite of jjamppong, pick up a tangsuyuk piece — now the tangsuyuk is what's delicious. In the end we finished almost everything. Jjamppong and tangsuyuk really is a combo that's hard to get wrong.

Who is Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong best for?
True to its name, what I remembered most was how generously Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong loaded in the cockles. If you go in expecting a jjamppong with just a few cockles on top, you'd honestly be surprised by the amount. If you love cockles, hunting them out between the noodles will be a real joy, and it'll also suit anyone who likes a spicy, clean-finishing broth.
If you're craving jjamppong in Dongtan and want something more than plain spicy — a bowl loaded with seafood and properly packed with cockles — this is a place worth a visit. That day, after finishing the jjamppong and tangsuyuk together, I felt full and satisfied, and thanks to the spicy broth, even my whole body felt warm.
