No stress about bringing a car and no tiring grilling required — I could just relax and enjoy the meat. Overall satisfaction was really high.

Where to park near Hanyang University Station: the building's underground lot

Suamgol Jjokgalbi Maeul Ansan Hanyang University Station Branch is on the 1st floor of Corosplaza, 370 Gwangdeok1-ro, Sangnok-gu, Ansan-si, Gyeonggi-do, and the building has its own underground parking lot, so you can park easily and walk right in. The rodeo street and restaurant alleys around Hanyang Uni Station usually have tight parking or no street parking at all, so I always used to worry about it before visiting.

Inside, the place is clean and well maintained, with both indoor tables and an outdoor-tent-style (yajang) space for that open-air feel. It looked like a great spot for hangouts with friends, family dinners, or group work dinners.

The first thing that catches your eye at Suamgol Jjokgalbi Maeul is the folding door, thrown wide open on nice days. The outside scenery comes right into view, giving a wonderfully open feeling with none of that closed-in stuffiness.

The retro round tables blend nicely with the clean interior, giving off proper old-school pub (nopo) and yajang vibes at the same time. Grilling meat while catching a cool breeze — the mood alone makes you want a drink!

Suamgol Jjokgalbi Maeul menu and what we ordered

You can see the freshness for yourself in the aging fridge. Off to one side of the restaurant is a large meat-aging fridge neatly stocked with vacuum-packed raw jjokgalbi.

Being able to see the thick, quality cuts through the clear glass really boosted my trust in the place.

Salt jjokgalbi and spicy jjokgalbi, grilled in the kitchen and ready to eat

The jjokgalbi at Suamgol Jjokgalbi Maeul comes out neatly pre-grilled and fully cooked. Jjokgalbi usually takes a while to grill and waiting can get tiring, but here it's ready to eat the moment it hits the pan — really convenient.

The salt jjokgalbi was crisp outside and moist inside, with the juices locked in for a savory, salty flavor that stayed true to the meat.

The spicy jjokgalbi had a deliciously spicy sauce soaked all the way through — totally addictive — and paired perfectly with the chewy grilled rice cakes cooked alongside it.

Self-serve banchan bar: pa-kimchi (spring onion kimchi) is the best match

At the self-serve bar you can freely grab whatever side dishes, utensils, and disposable gloves you need. Every single banchan was well made and paired beautifully with the meat.

The perfectly fermented, sharp and spicy pa-kimchi (green onion kimchi) in particular brought out the flavor of the meat even more. Thanks to the well-kept self-serve bar, I could pile on as much tasty banchan as I wanted without a second thought.

Free sundubu-jjigae with every order

Suamgol Jjokgalbi Maeul serves soft tofu stew (sundubu-jjigae) as a standard side, bubbling away in an earthenware pot. Loaded with soft tofu and vegetables, the broth is spicy and refreshing.

It's great to sip between bites of meat, and honestly good enough to be a drinking snack on its own.

The 6,000-won nostalgic lunchbox and soju-beer over ice

The nostalgic lunchbox I ordered as a meal item costs 6,000 won and comes in an old-school retro lunchbox tin, just like the ones from way back.

It's packed with savory pink sausage, golden fried egg, spicy-tangy stir-fried kimchi, and toasted seaweed flakes — close the lid, shake it up, and it pairs wonderfully with the meat.

The portion was hearty enough to make a satisfying end to the meal. With so many side options, I'm already looking forward to trying the fried rice balls next time.

Glass filled to the brim with ice

I asked for an ice-filled glass to enjoy some soju-beer cold, and they brought out a pretty cup packed with ice. A refreshing drink from that ice-filled glass was an absolutely perfect match with the jjokgalbi.
