Thick-cut tuna sashimi set for 3 in Dujeong-dong: Donghae Bada Hoetjip
In short
Donghae Bada Hoetjip is a long-running sashimi and seafood restaurant in Dujeong-dong, Cheonan, serving in-season seafood, grilled fish and raw fish platters. Three of us, including my mom, shared the assorted sashimi and seafood stew set for 3 at 130,000 won, which brought thick-cut tuna sashimi, a seafood stew packed with octopus, abalone and roe, and seasoned fried rice to finish. With private rooms on hand, Donghae Bada Hoetjip works just as well for a team dinner or a meal out with parents.

I came home to visit my mom today, and she said she was craving seafood after a while, so we headed straight to Donghae Bada Hoetjip haha!!! Let me give you the real review, from prices to taste~

I'm actually from Cheonan! (random confession) I lived here all through high school, moved away for college, and now I come back once or twice a month to see my parents. If you're from Dujeong-dong, you probably all know Donghae Bada Hoetjip!! It's been around forever with a lot of loyal regulars, so it's been a real while since I last visited too, haha.
It's a place where you can get seasonal seafood and grilled fish, so it's great to bring your parents here.

Private rooms that suit a team dinner in Cheonan
We came at a pretty awkward hour, but it was still bustling with people. Definitely a hot spot!!!

They have private rooms like this, so it looks great for a group dinner (hoesik) too!

Menu and prices: sashimi and seafood stew set for 3 at 130,000 won
Looking at the Donghae Bada Hoetjip menu, this place sells not just sashimi but also seafood stew, seafood casserole, and monkfish stew too! So we ordered the set that comes with sashimi and seafood stew together.

We ordered the assorted sashimi + seafood stew for 3, ₩130,000.

Side dishes: chive pancake, aged kimchi, seaweed soup and even bossam
Savory, crispy fried chive pancake (buchujeon) — great as an appetizer.

Aged kimchi that goes perfectly with the sashimi. Savory and full of umami — so good!

Wouldn't feel right without warm seaweed soup (miyeokguk) on the side~ Seasoning was spot on, made me want to mix it with rice.

Bossam (boiled pork), beondegi (silkworm pupae), pajeon, salad, and saury come out as basic side dishes! Just note that the boiled pork has no refill and comes with an extra charge if you add more.

How big is the thick-cut assorted sashimi platter?
The assorted sashimi quality is genuinely insane... I went to an all-you-can-eat tuna place not long ago, and the tuna quality here was on a completely different level.

The sashimi comes out neatly sliced on a cool stone slab! Honestly at first I thought the portion looked small, but as we kept eating, it definitely wasn't a small amount... In the end we had to leave a few pieces, which was such a shame... T_T

The sashimi wasn't thinly sliced — it was as thick as my thigh, haha, so the texture was seriously on point!
So glossy... look at these thickly sliced pieces. I didn't order alcohol because I didn't want to get smacked on the back by my mom, but honestly, this really called for a drink...

Put a piece of fresh tuna sashimi on seasoned laver with wasabi and radish sprouts and wrap it up into one bite... ahh~~~ this is what life's about... T_T
When does the seafood stew arrive? Octopus, abalone and roe all in one
Once you're busy enjoying the sashimi, the seafood stew shows up on its own timing! No need to say anything — it comes out right on cue, so just focus on enjoying the sashimi.

The seafood stew arrives. Honestly it's not on the cheap side, so I was a bit let down for a moment — but the second I saw the stew's visuals, that thought completely disappeared...

Wow... honestly the sashimi was already great, but this place is genuinely a seafood stew powerhouse... amazing.
Octopus, squid, gonyi (fish roe sac), roe, crab, shrimp, abalone — a total seafood gathering! The staff cut everything into bite-sized pieces for us.

The squid is seriously plump... the seafood here is genuinely fresh.
There's even abalone, so this is basically a health-boosting feast. My mom enjoyed it so much too, which made me really happy :)

All the roe I've eaten up to now was basically nothing compared to this... this was the biggest and most substantial roe I've ever had in my life.

So rich and dense — dip it in wasabi soy sauce and it takes you to another world... T_T
The gonyi was also savory and tender, absolutely the best... The seasoning here is bold and keeps hooking your palate, if that makes sense? It went really well with the seafood.
The shrimp were plump and chunky too~ Shrimp season is coming soon so I need to go eat grilled shrimp too, haha.
Come on in, plump octopus~

In between, we never forgot the sashimi either, haha. The combo of spicy seafood stew and sashimi wasn't bad at all.
Finishing with crab tempura and fried rice in the seafood stew sauce
This here is the crab tempura I got through a review event. Great to try as a light dessert-like bite.

By this point I was genuinely full... but the moment you taste the seafood stew sauce, you instantly think, this has to become fried rice.

They take the leftover sauce and make the fried rice for you right there, and wrapping it in laver is absolutely delicious, hehe.
Fresh sashimi and a full spread of side dishes — this place was flawless! If you're looking for a seafood restaurant or a group gathering spot in Dujeong-dong, I highly recommend Donghae Bada Hoetjip!!!
