Hi everyone, it's Bbippo! 😆

I was craving gopchang (beef tripe) while hunting for good food near Garak Market, so I stopped by Midang Hanwoo Gopchang. While looking for a gopchang place near Garak Market, I walked in and noticed a sign that caught my eye.

That was basically the gist of it — the sign explained that thanks to years of experience, the owner personally selects fresh, high-quality meat on-site at a reasonable price...!!

Since I love gopchang, seeing a sign like this naturally made me curious about their standards for preparing the meat. One corner of the restaurant introduced Midang's signature accompaniments — a sauce made from aged Hadong plum syrup with cheongyang chili added, plus a chive salad. Gopchang has a rich, savory flavor, so pairing it with these sides is great for switching things up as you eat!

Honeycomb tripe and gopchang grilling on the pan

Honeycomb tripe, gopchang, daechang and heart grilled by the staff

First, the staff grilled the honeycomb tripe, gopchang, daechang, and heart for us. Watching everything turn golden brown on the grill made the waiting part exciting too. Once cut into bite-sized pieces, the outside was crisped and savory while the inside stayed chewy — really fun to eat.

You could really taste that distinctive savory flavor of gopchang, and eating it alternately with the plum syrup sauce and chive salad let us enjoy a variety of combinations rather than just one flavor the whole time. We also tried the daechang we'd ordered, and its plump appearance alone was visually overwhelming!

Grilled golden on the pan, the daechang had that distinctive savory richness and soft texture. Gopchang and daechang come from the same cow but have noticeably different textures, so it's fun to alternate between them — if you're visiting with someone, ordering both is a good idea, and they also have a combo platter!

Finishing with kkakdugi fried rice (4,000 won)

And after eating gopchang, of course the finale has to be fried rice! Finishing with fried rice made in the leftover fat from the gopchang and daechang left us incredibly full, and the kkakdugi added a crunchy texture here and there — a totally different feel from everything we'd eaten before, and a great way to wrap up the meal.

For anyone looking for good food in Garak-dong who wants to eat gopchang or daechang together, this menu lineup seems like a solid choice. If you're ever craving gopchang near Garak Market, try the course of fresh gopchang and daechang followed by the fried rice finale.

For those of us who love gopchang like me, Midang Hanwoo Gopchang was a great spot to remember as a gopchang place near Garak Market. The honeycomb tripe was better than I expected, so next time I want to order it separately as an extra dish!
