Bangi Station grill house with MSG-free pork galbi: Hantiok
In short
Hantiok is a Korean grill house on Wiryeseong-daero in Songpa, Seoul, close to Bangi Station (Line 5) and the Rose Square of Olympic Park. Hantiok marinates its pork galbi (pork short ribs) in fruit and licorice root instead of chemical seasoning and grills it over charcoal, and also serves a rich hanwoo (Korean beef) soup that tastes like a countryside market and jumbo dumplings made without glass noodles. With a wide hall, private rooms and a kids' zone, Hantiok works equally well for business meals, family dinners and group gatherings.

When it comes to good pork galbi (short ribs), I'll happily travel to Mapo, Bangi Station, or even all the way to Goseong in Gangwon Province. Near Olympic Park's Rose Square, a spot I visit often, there's a restaurant known for great pork galbi made without chemical seasoning, so I went. This is Hantiok, a Bangi-dong restaurant.

Hantiok's wide hall and private rooms

Hantiok, a Bangi-dong restaurant good for both group meals in the wide hall and private dining in the rooms. A fun detail: at Hantiok's main Bangi branch, the chairs where celebrities, soccer players, and announcers once sat are labeled with their names and affiliations :) On top of that, a kids' zone opened this summer, making it even better for family meals with young children. I could really feel Hantiok's thoughtful care for guests.
MSG-free charcoal pork galbi at Hantiok

Hantiok's pork galbi has scoring cuts so the marinade soaks in well, and the visual alone got me excited. Once the charcoal heated up, the owner laid the meat on for us. His manners were so good—courteous and disciplined like an old-school Western-style restaurant manager, yet humble too, which really stood out. 👍 As he turned the meat and adjusted the fire, the smell of the pork galbi marinade grew stronger and stronger over the charcoal—I could just tell how good it would taste~~ 😍

I put a piece of pork galbi in my mouth and was moved. ♥️ Instead of chemical seasoning, corn syrup, or sugar, it's marinated with the natural sweetness of fruit and the flavor of licorice root—no wonder the smell was different even while grilling... These days I'm often disappointed at restaurants because chemical seasoning and Chinese-imported ingredients have changed the taste from what it used to be, but at Hantiok, this Bangi-dong restaurant, the pork galbi had the true, honest flavor and aroma of the ingredients themselves. Above all, a rich, luxurious umami spread through my mouth—the kind of taste that makes you smile and feel good while eating.

The well-prepared side dishes played their part too. No wonder this place is known as a Bangi-dong restaurant!! Side dishes not being strongly seasoned doesn't mean they're bland. The pickled vegetables cleansed the palate, and the salad was refreshing while still whetting the appetite. I finished every side dish without leaving anything.
Hanwoo beef soup with a countryside feast flavor

Hantiok's hanwoo (Korean beef) soup tastes just like the one served at countryside feasts! The dried radish greens are tender, the broth is rich and savory, and it's packed with meat. I think it's the kind of hearty hanwoo soup that reminds older guests of the market food they used to eat long ago, stirring up nostalgic memories—which is probably why they keep coming back to Hantiok.

Partway through, I gave up the spoon and just picked up the earthenware bowl to drink the clean broth. Even after eating pork galbi, I finished the soup down to the last drop of broth—I guess in front of delicious food, your stomach doubles in size ♡
Jumbo dumplings packed with meat and vegetables

Hantiok's jumbo dumplings don't contain glass noodles. I tend to have pretty high standards for dumplings, and I liked that there were no glass noodles—the generous meat and vegetable filling tasted clean and light. Still, the most moving dish was, of course, the pork galbi. With that natural-seasoning umami I could eat every single day without getting tired of it, I'd love to bring my whole family next time.
Is Hantiok worth a visit? Final verdict

A true find near Olympic Park and in Bangi-dong—great for hosting guests, family meals, work dinners, or group gatherings alike ♡ From a countryside market in Yecheon, North Gyeongsang Province, to Hantiok in Bangi-dong near Olympic Park in Seoul, I hope this deep, honest, generation-spanning flavor and that luxurious umami keep going on and on. A truly moving restaurant that simply can't be rated with just five stars!! Adding this to my must-revisit list ♡♡♡
